CAT scan— how it can help Save Your Life
Whenever we trip or fall, we would often brush it off as long as we see that there are no physical injuries. In the event that we do get an injury such as a scrape, we would just apply a disinfectant and cream for our wounds then wait for them to heal all on their own. However, there are some extreme cases where we would suffer internally and there is no way for us to easily tell where the problem is not unless we go through a CAT scan. Doing so will enable us to better understand what is going on with us and know exactly if there is a problem. We would save ourselves the time and energy spent on worrying and guessing what could be the matter if we simply go for this. In addition to that, we will be able to get a better diagnosis and receive the appropriate treatment as soon as we can. Our doctor will also be able to tell the degree of our injuries this way. However, you need to keep in mind that you should only go through this very rarely because this utilizes radiation in order to get a better view of what is going on with you internally. Getting exposed to radiation all the time can be risky; however, when done correctly, it can provide you more help than harm. Another negative effect you can get is an allergic reaction to the iodine which is used in order to get a better image of your body. In addition to that, your kidney could experience some problems as well. However, this kind of scan is only used in the event that you and your doctor suspect that you have a life threatening Cypress Point Office Park 10010 N Dale Mabry Hwy Tampa, FL 33618

disease. Keep in mind that this is not a cure but a method to better provide you with a diagnosis. Remember, it is very important to keep yourself healthy. How does a CT scan work? This particular test in the field of medicine is technically patterned to the conventional X-ray imaging. Instead of giving outlines, the sophisticated machines of CT scans would provide a three-dimensional computer model of what is inside the body of the patient. At the same time, health experts can also perform an examination a specific area of the body since it examines the parts of the body slice by slice, from all angles. Since the examination involves three-dimensions and angles, a CT scanner would use digital geometry in order to generate a three-dimensional image of the scanned object. What happens during the procedure? The procedure in a CAT scan would vary. Sometimes, intravenous contrast agent is required wherein the patient is first briefed about the proceedings and asked to sign a form of consent before the needle and is placed and taped down. In some cases, the head is required to be immobilized. To achieve this, soft straps are being used to hold the head and neck in place. The moment the patient is in position, the technologist would normally leave the room to control scanner with a computer in the adjacent room. Just like X-ray procedures, the patient is required to hold his or her breath and remain motionless while an image is being captured. In order to capture the images from the best angle, the scanner may tilt forward and back. Lying completely still is important when during image capturing since the movement can

reduce the clarity; thus giving the radiologist a hard time interpreting them In addition to this, the length of the complete examination is going to vary. This is going to depend on what type of CAT is required. Normally, a simple scan would take between ten to forty five minutes whereas a more complicated on would take even longer.
