Tamilnadu (CUTN) was established under the Central Universities Act-2009 of the Indian Parliament to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing instructional and research facilities, promote innovation in teaching-learning process and research, establish linkages with industries for promotion of science and technology and educate and train manpower for the development of the country. The University has territorial jurisdiction over the whole of the state of Tamilnadu and admits students on All India basis. Its permanent campus is located at Thiruvarur.

The faculty of the university shall be encouraged to undertake cutting edge research in frontier areas, consultancy and/or other academic/professional assignments as per the rules of the university. The reservations for SC/ST/OBC/PH shall be as per Govt. of India norms. The website of the University presents all relevant information including academic programmes and details of posts, payment of application fee, minimum qualifications/experience/ requirements and other conditions, address, format of application (to be downloaded by candidate) etc., are available on the website of the University http://www.tiruvarur.tn.nic.in The last date for submission of applications for current phase of Faculty Positions is 14th May, 2011. In the initial years, teaching will form the bulk of the faculty responsibility (2 course commitment per semester).As the teachers shall be required to teach courses, their specializations preferably should conform to the syllabi of the respective Integrated Masters Program/Masters Program of the University. The candidates are required to indicate the courses which they propose to teach and produce evidence of their specialization in the concerned area as reflected in their research publications/academic assignments etc. The University reserves the right not to fill in any of the positions or to fill the positions at lower levels without assigning any reason. The University also reserves the right to select candidates with higher qualifications than what is specified or to select candidates who have not applied for the posts or those with different specialization. Abbreviations: SC = Scheduled Caste; ST = Schedule Tribe; OBC = Other Backward Classes; PWD = Persons with Disabilities; UR = Unreserved a) Five non-compounded advance increments shall be admissible at the entry level of recruitment as Assistant Professor to persons possessing the degree of Ph.D. awarded in a relevant discipline by the University following the process of admission, registration, course work and external evaluation as prescribed by the UGC. b) M.Phil. degree holders at the time of recruitment to the post of Assistant Professor shall be entitled to two non-compounded advance increments. c) Those possessing Post-graduate degree in the professional course such as LL.M./ M. Tech. etc., recognized by the relevant statutory body / council, shall also be entitled to 2 noncompounded advance increments at the entry level. There is no relevance between the present employment notification and the earlier employment notifications issued by the University as the UGC guidelines have changed. Therefore, candidates, who submitted applications in response to the previous employment notifications are required to submit fresh applications in the prescribed form and pay necessary application fee for the posts mentioned in the present employment notification.

The qualifications and other conditions prescribed in the present advertisement are in accordance to the UGC Regulations on Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education 2010 ( herein after referred as UGC Regulations 2010) published in the Gazette of India, September 18, 2010 (BHADRA 27, 1932) [Part-III-Sec.4] and are subject to future regulations/norms, including amendments in the present regulations, stipulated by the MHRD/UGC/AICTE applicable to such recruitments. PAYMENT OF APPLICATION FEE & SUBMISSION OF FILLED IN APPLICATIONS: The duly filled in Application (for each post with separate Demand Draft) shall be submitted by the applicant so as to reach the University on or before the due date mentioned in this Advertisement with the following requirements :

A crossed Demand Draft for Rs. 500/- (from any other Nationalised Bank) for candidates under ‘General’ and 'OBC' category, or U.S. $ 15/- (U.S. Dollars), for candidates applying from abroad and wish to pay the amount in foreign currency, drawn in favour of “CUTN, Thiruvarur”, payable at Thiruvarur, Tamilnadu, India, should be sent alongwith the application. The Demand Draft (non-refundable) must be placed/tagged at top of the application. Applications not accompanied by the prescribed fee shall not be considered for the present cycle of recruitment and summarily rejected. No representation against such rejection will be entertained. No fee for SC & ST candidates. Persons with Disabilities (i.e. PWD) are also exempted from payment of fee, subject to submission of prescribed Disability Certificate. Women candidates of any community are exempted from payment of fee. Essential qualification for the post of PROFESSOR in Sciences, and Social Sciences, and Languages
A. (i) An eminent scholar with Ph.D. qualification(s) in the concerned / allied / relevant discipline and published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with a minimum of 10 publications as books and / or research / policy papers. (ii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university / college, and / or experience in research at the University / National level institutions / industries, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level. (iii) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology – mediated teaching learning process. (iv) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in the UGC Regulation, 2010

or
B. An outstanding professional, with established reputation in the relevant field, who has made significant contributions to the knowledge in the concerned / allied / relevant discipline, to be substantiated by credentials. NOTE : A relaxation of 5% may be provided at the graduate and Master's level for the SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities (Physical and Visual Disabilities) categories for the purpose of eligibility and for assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions.

Essential qualifications for the post of ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR in Sciences, and Social Sciences
[Area of specialization of each subject is furnished below ]
(i) Good academic record with a Ph.D. Degree in the concerned / allied / relevant disciplines. (ii) A Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed). (iii) A minimum of eight years of experience of teaching and / or research in an academic / research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution/industry excluding the period of Ph.D. research with evidence of published work and a minimum of 5 publications as books and / or research / policy papers. (iv) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology – mediated teaching learning process with evidence of having guided doctoral candidates and research students. (v) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in the UGC Regulation, 2010. NOTE : 1)Under the term 'good academic record' the candidate must have obtained on an average of 50% marks in each of the two public examinations/degrees immediately preceding the Master's degree. 2) A relaxation of 5% may be provided at the graduate and Master's level for the SC/ST/ Persons with Disabilities (Physical and Visual Disabilities) categories for the purpose of eligibility and for assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions.

Area of specialization :Computer Science : Currently the University has teaching programs in M.A (English) and Integrated M.Sc programs in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. 3.3.1

Essential qualifications for the post of ASSISTANT PROFESSOR Sciences, and Social Sciences
[Area of specialization of each subject is furnished below]

in

(i) Good academic record as defined by the concerned university with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the Master’s Degree level in a relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. (ii) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET / SET. (iii) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-clauses (i) and (ii) to this Clause 4.4.1, candidates, who are, or have been awarded a Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities / Colleges / Institutions. (iv) NET / SLET / SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which NET / SLET / SET is not conducted.

NOTE: (1) A relaxation of 5% may be provided at the graduate and Master's level for the SC/ST/ Persons with Disabilities (Physical and Visual Disabilities) categories for the purpose of eligibility and for assessing good academic record during direct recruitment to teaching positions.
(2) A relaxation of 5% may be provided, from 55% to 50% of the marks, to the Ph.D degree holders who have passed their master's degree prior to 19th Sept.1991: (3) B in the 7 point scale with letter grades O,A,B,C,D,E & F shall be regarded as equivalent of 55% wherever the grading system is followed. (4). Under the term 'good academic record' the candidate must have obtained on an average of 50% marks in each of the two public examinations/degrees immediately preceding the Master's degree.

In case of the Candidates from Engineering & Technology Stream with M.E./M.Tech./MS degree (For the post of Assistant Professor in Computer Science Only) :
1. Essential: First Class Master’s Degree in the appropriate branch (CS/IT). 2. Without prejudice to the above, the following conditions may be considered desirable: (i) Teaching, research industrial and / or professional experience in a reputed organization; (ii) Papers presented at Conferences and / or in refereed journals. Note : The candidates shall not be eligible under the Engineering & Technology Stream on the basis of Master of Computer Application (MCA) degree. Area of specialization :Computer Science Currently the University has teaching programs in M.A (English) and Integrated M.Sc programs in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. Integrated M.Sc (Economics), M.A (Classical Tamil) and M.A (Regional Studies) are likely to be introduced from next Academic Year. Applicants are advised to submit the applications to the University well in advance, without waiting till last date, to avoid postal delay or any other unforeseen problems. The University will not be responsible for any postal delay at any stage. The University may offer lower post to a candidate, who may have applied for a higher post, in case suitable candidates are not available for the advertised post or on account of switching over to new Regulations. It will be open to the University to consider, on its own, names of suitable candidates who might have not applied. Candidate shall not claim it as a right. The prescribed qualifications and experience are minimum and the mere fact that a candidate possesses the same will not entitle him/her for being called for interview. The University reserves the right to restrict the candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable number on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed as decided by duly constituted Screening Committee/s and approved by the Competent Authority. Call letters for attending interview will be sent only to the short-listed candidates by Speed Post or Registered Post or Courier service. No correspondence will be made with applicants who were not short-listed/not called for interview. a) Reservations for SC, ST, OBC and Persons with Disabilities candidates exist as per the Rosters being maintained by the University for various posts in accordance with the guidelines of the UGC. Candidates applying for the Reserved Posts should clearly state to which category they belong. They must also enclose a Certificate issued by Tahsildar/Mandal Revenue Officer/ Equivalent authority as proof to this effect, without which the applications will not be considered. b) In case a candidate wants to claim benefits under the Persons with Disabilities category, the candidate’s relevant disability should be not less than 40 per cent. Proof, to this effect, must be enclosed to the application, without which the application will be treated as 'general (unreserved)'. c) Candidate applying for the post(s) reserved for O.B.C., must submit an attested copy of caste certificate specifically mentioning Creamy Layer-exclusion in the format prescribed by Govt. of India, issued by competent authority, vide Column 3 of G.O.I. Deptt. of Personnel and Training O.M.No. 36012/22/93-Estt.(SCT) dated 8.9.1993 and modified vide DOPT's O.M.No. 36033/3/2004-Estt.(Res) dated 9.3.2004, subsequently revised vide O.M. No.36033/3/2004-Estt.(Res) dated 14.10.2008, without which applications will not be considered. The form of Caste Certificate must be in the format as prescribed by the Govt. of India; otherwise the application will be summarily rejected without further consideration. The University reserves the right to relax any of the qualifications, experience, etc., in deserving cases in respect of any post. Candidates shall not claim it as a right. The number of vacancies of the posts indicated in this Employment Notification is tentative. The University reserves the right to fill any consequential vacancies, and /or to increase/decrease the number of posts and make appointments accordingly. Canvassing in any form on behalf of any candidate will disqualify such candidate. Selection will be made on the basis of candidates’ previous record and their performance in the interview. The University may utilize seminar /colloquium and/or any other mode as a method of selection. INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING UP PART ‘B’ OF THE APPLICATION FORM Part B of the form is based on Appendix III, Table 1 of the UGC Regulations 2010. It is to be filled out for the recently completed academic year. The form is to be filled as per these tables and self-assessment scores given. For each category, maximum scores that can be given or carried forward is indicated in the Table. The self-assessment scores are further to be based on the indicators/activities given below. The Universities may modify the detailed indicators and related scores based on their experience and requirement without changing the score requirements assigned to categories and sub-categories in Appendix III, Table 1. NB.The self-assessment scores are subject to verification by the university/college, and by the Screening cum Verification Committee or Selection Committee as the case may be.
