By Chris Fiel

CHARLEVOIX COUNTY —
With the 2014 volleyball season closing a few weeks ago,
the Charlevoix County News
is proud to announce the annual All-Area Volleyball
“Dream Team”.
This season the team is lead
by Player of the Year,
Charlevoix senior co-captain,
Madeline Boss. The Rayder
multiple position player
helped lead the Charlevoix
team to a district title, their
first since 2011 and a 41-8-5
overall record-high. She is
also a three time All-Area selection.
Madeline finished with 756
kills, which was a team high.
She also had 76 aces, another
team high and served at a 96
percent rate in five postseason
matches.

Boss also recorded 518 digs,
a team high, made 427 serve
receptions, 90 percent accuracy and finished the year
with 54 blocks.
“Maddie had an exceptional
year in all aspects of the
game,” Rayder coach Aurda
Randall said. “She was incredibly versatile at the net making many teams fear the heat
of her hits. This year Maddie
made all the effort to increase
her kill efficiency and to step
up her defensive play. Also as
co-captain on the team, helped
lead her team during match
play. Her sheer athleticism
made watching volleyball a lot
of fun.”
Some of Boss’s season highlights include a 31 kill match
in the regional semifinals
against Quinn, which will
earn her a place in the
MHSAA record book. Her career total for kills should also

place her in the top 15.
Madeline was also a first
team All-State selection for
Class C, in addition to All-Region and All-Conference
Dream Team selections.
Joining Boss on the 2014 AllArea Volleyball “Dream
Team” are fellow Rayders;
Olivia Storm, Gloria Greene
and Alexis Tribfelner. Boyne
City is represented by Paige
Hornbeck, Ashlyn Kartes and
Abby Gardner, while East Jordan offers Kirsten Malpass,
Katie Spence and Mazzy
Pepin. Ellsworth showcases
Amanda Veenstra and Maddie
Steenwyk.

Charlevoix
Olivia Storm, senior. The
Rayder setter and right back
defensive player was another
key component for Charlevoix
this season.

Olivia finished the season
with a team-high 1042 assists,
while recording 323 digs and
making 54 kills. She also
blocked 20 shots and served at
a 94 percent accuracy clip,
which included 26 aces.
“Olivia and Maddie were
quite a duo at the net,” coach
Randall said. “Olivia as a senior, really make a difference
on the court in keeping the
team calm, she really kept
herself poised on the court
and played with a positive attitude and truly believed in her
teammates.”
“At the net, Olivia made
some pivotal blocks in some
big matches blocking some of
this area’s biggest hitters, I
think that was always a highlight for Liv in a match,” the
coach added.
Storm was also recognized

in Class C. Olivia was also

assists and 382 digs. She
also served with 90 percent
accuracy, including 71 aces
and recorded 227 good serve
receptions.
“Gloria was the top
blocker for the team, but her
serving was very productive
and delivered a deceptive
float serve,” Charlevoix
coach Randall said. “She
was creative as a middle hitter, being a major front offensive threat. She had
some stand out matches
throughout the season that
were spectacular to watch
her play the game and really
enjoy the moment and experience.”
Gloria was also an All-Region and All-Conference selection. She is also a
two-time All-Area team selection.

good for 90 percent accuracy. She also served at a 93
percent rate, including
recording 59 aces. Tribfelner also added seven kills.

player and a leader. She has continued to gain strength, confidence, power and poise in all
aspects of the game,” coach
Chestnutt said. “She was a great
asset to our team across all stats
and she led the team in total
Blocks and Aces. She is a player
to keep your eye on in the next
couple years, as she is only a

sophomore this year, with so
much potential!”

Devil team captain and three
year varsity athlete. Kirsten was

Things Not to Do Before Purchasing a Home
No major Purchase of Any

purchase that would create debt

Don’t move money Around
When a lender reviews your
loan package for approval, one
of the things they are concerned
about is the source of funds for
your down payment and closing

costs. Most likely, you will be
asked to provide statements for
the last two or three months on
any of your liquid assets. This
includes checking accounts,
savings accounts, money market
funds, certificates of deposit,
stock statements, mutual funds,
and even your company 401K
and retirement accounts.
If you have been moving
money between accounts during
that time, there may be large deposits and withdrawals in some
of them.

The mortgage underwriter
(the person who actually approves your loan) will probably
require a complete paper trail of
all the withdrawals and deposits. You may be required to
produce cancelled checks, deposit receipts, and other seemingly inconsequential data,
which could get quite tedious.
Perhaps you become exasperated at your lender, but they are
only doing their job correctly.
To ensure quality control and

eliminate potential fraud, it is a
requirement on most loans to
completely document the source
of all funds. Moving your
money around, even if you are
consolidating your funds to
make it easier, could make it
more difficult for the lender to
properly document.
So leave your money where it
is until you talk to a loan officer. In addition, this would be a
bad time to change banks.
