Christian 12 Step Program
Recovery from any compulsive behavior is possible only if
we accept the fact that we are powerless over our addiction,
and we are incapable of changing without help from
outside ourselves. Spiritual Introspection is when we turn
the spotlight of truth on the inside of our lives to include
our painful past hurts.
Chaplain Mark H. Stevens, B.Th, M.Min, CPRP

Spiritual Introspection is a God Centered 12-step program similar
to Alcoholics Anonymous. We are dedicated to helping men
overcome sexual or chemical addictions and bondages. We named
the group Spiritual Introspection because we want to apply self
examination techniques to help individuals deal with past hurts
and also be accountable for the hurt that they caused others.
We use the Book of Psalms as the primary spiritual guide because
most major religions gain valuable insight and comfort from the
Psalms of David and The Proverbs
.
1.
We admitted we were powerless over addictive
sexual behavior - that our lives had become
unmanageable.
Psalms 38:4 "For mine iniquities are gone over mine
head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me."
Question: Do you admit that your live is unmanageable
right now?

2.

Came to believe that a Power greater than
ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Psalm 32:10 “Many are the woes of the wicked, but the
Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the man who TRUST in
HIM”
Question: Do you admit that you don’t have the will
power to stop your compulsive behavior?

Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over
to the care of God as we understood God.

LORD, and depart from evil."
Question: Are you ready to ask God to take control of
your uncontrollable situation.

Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of
ourselves.

Psalms 51:6 "Behold, thou desirest truth in the
inward parts: and in the hidden [part] thou shalt
make me to know wisdom."
Question: Have you done an inventory of your hurts as
well as your wrong doings?

with me. I confess my iniquity;I am troubled by my sin”

renew a right spirit within me."

Made a list of all persons we had harmed and
became willing to make amends to them all.

sevenfold, though it cost him all the wealth of his

within your ability?

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we
were wrong promptly admitted it.

Psalm 51:17 “ The sacrifices of God are a broken and
contrite spirit”
"Confess" means to mention the exact sin. This
is the first step to forgiveness.
Question: Are will willing to be forthright about your
weaknesses? Are you willing to continue to be open
to God on a consistent basis?

11.
Sought through prayer and meditation to
improve our conscious contact with God as we
understood God, praying only for knowledge of
God's will for us and the power to carry that out.
Psalm 37: 7 “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently
before Him”

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of
these steps, we tried to carry this message to
other sex addicts and to practice these
principles in our lives.

Psalms 51:13 "[Then] will I teach transgressors thy
ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee."
