Cincinnati is the third largest city in Ohio with a land area of 78.0 sq miles and population of over 300,000. It is a home to major conglomerates in the United States, with more than 370 companies listed in the Fortune 500. Over 10 of the Fortune 1000 companies have their headquarters in Cincinnati. Cincinnati Ohio received various awards and business honors such as: o Being included in the list of the top 50 Best Cities for Doing Business - Inc. Magazine 2004-2006 o 13th in the 50 Top Large Cities - Entrepreneur Magazine 2005 o One of the Top Business Opportunity Metro in 2005 o 33rd "America's 50 Hottest Cities" - Expansion Management 2006 o 81st in "Best Places for Business and Careers" - Forbes magazine 2006 34% of Cincinnati employment is a workforce with a college degree and higher, making it one of the most literate cities in the US. This is based on a study conducted by Central Connecticut State University done in 2005. This is mostly due to the fact that some major universities are located in the city such as the Xavier University; the University of Cincinnati or UC, one of the United State's major graduate research institutions; Miami University, considered one of the original public Ivy League schools; and one of the United State's best culinary institutes, Cincinnati State, among others.

Cincinnati employment is widely spread in many industries. Top earning industries include the field of Advanced Design Services such as Robotics, Business Management and Financial Services, Biotechnology, Digital Equipment and Telecommunications, and Software & Data Processing for companies (Cincinnati Bell and Convergys). It also includes Advanced Manufacturing, Aerospace, Chemicals and Plastics, and Motor Vehicle Manufacturing (Mitsubishi Motors). Major multinational companies such as Kroger, Procter & Gamble, and Chiquita Brands International are headquartered in the city, contributing to a great number of Cincinnati employment, along with other major companies such as Convergys, Fifth Third Bank, Macy's Inc., owner of the large department store chain Macy's and Bloomingdale's, Scripps Networks Interactive, the owner of big TV networks such as HGTV and Food Network, and Cincinnati Bell. Some of the popular jobs in Cincinnati employment that pay or are paid relatively well include legislators, chiropractors, appraisers and assessors of real estate, optometrists, education administrators, art directors, occupational health and safety technicians, patternmakers for metal and plastic, engine and other machine assemblers, statistical assistants, tax examiners, collectors, revenue agents, automotive glass installers and repairers, teachers for health specialties, and criminal justice and law enforcement, as well as sales representatives for wholesale, manufacturing, aerospace engineering and operations technicians, technical and scientific products, graphic designers, reporters and correspondents, dental laboratory technicians, transportation inspectors, rehabilitation counselors, producers and directors, clinical, counseling, and school psychologists, and construction laborers. Self employed professionals, especially those working in the medical field, are some of the highest paid. This includes Anesthesiologists, Surgeons, Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Pediatricians, Internists, Podiatrists, and pharmacists. Professionals in other industries fare well such as aerospace engineers, Veterinarians, agents and business managers of artists, performers, athletes, and construction managers. Amid the financial global crisis, Cincinnati manages to keep its unemployment rate to a minimum.
