Employer and Employment Initiatives COLORADO NATIONAL GUARD EMPLOYMENT INITIATIVE
Supported by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) and Colorado Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Volunteers This initiative is aimed at identifying and assisting those returning National Guard members who do not have jobs to come home to or are seeking new employment on their return. The 928th Area Medical Support Company* and their some 75 members, who returned home after a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan was the first National Guard unit to successfully participate in this concerted and coordinated effort.

The following business leaders (in alphabetical order) make up our current Senior Advisory Council: This at-the-top leadership is so crucial to ESGR’s efforts here in Colorado to reach more employers, to get their support for our Guard and Reserve members who are employed by many civilian employers; and to lead the way for all our employers, public and private, to recognize, value, and support the military service of their employees.

One Guard service member remarked: “I have gotten three job offers, what a remarkable decision I have to make on which one to take.”

People were excited about the job situation, many were offered jobs on site, with hundreds of others continuing the interviewing process. Many attendees said that even if they did not get jobs from these events, the classes helped them feel better prepared for the job search, one of the main goals of the Expos! Employers, ESGR volunteers, as well as, volunteers from other organizations did a superb job. The EXPO required high energy, an ability to answer questions and a wide variety of skills in making things run smoothly. The invaluable effort by volunteers demonstrated a dedicated and hard working group towards an important goal of getting our Veterans and Military service members JOBS!
From a Human Resources Manager: “Thank you for a great event...We had a wonderful time, met some outstanding candidates and hired 3 managers on that day...We look forward to a continued partnership in supporting the effort to bring our vets back to work.” K. Willis

“I found the training and the job fair very useful, especially as I plan for my future transition out of the Air Force and back into the civilian world. Hard to believe it was all provided free of charge.” K. Daugherty

“Three Colorado Employers Were Semi-finalists to the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award”
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense agency, announced in April that three Colorado employers had been selected as semifinalists for the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the DoD to employers for exceptional support of their Guard and Reserve employees. In 2012, 133 semifinalists nationwide stood out among an impressive pool of 3,236 nominees. The Colorado employers named semifinalists are:  Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., Broomfield;  Colorado Springs Utilities, Colorado Springs;  Infinity Systems Engineering, Colorado Springs.

Freedom Award nominations come directly from Guard and Reserve members, or family members acting on their behalf.

The Freedom Award provides service members with an opportunity to recognize employers for going above and beyond what is required by law. Employers chosen as semifinalists support their Guard and Reserve employees through a variety of formal and informal initiatives, including developing internal military support networks, providing full benefits to employees fulfilling their military obligations, caring for the families of deployed employees, and granting additional leave to Guard and Reserve employees preparing to leave for or return from deployments.

The Nomination Period for the 2013 Freedom Award began November 1, 2012 and will end January 21, 2013

Kenneth Beach and Craig Ralston asked me to join them when they left Smith Barney. We initially were a tiny team of 3 people. We are now a team of 8. They have since day one supported me in all my military endeavors. They have come to numerous changes of commands and promotions and even the CONG's 150th Military Ball. They are my "other" family and are proud of the opportunities I have been offered. It is only through their continued support and that of my family that I have been able to execute the duties as Assistant Adjutant General for the Colorado Army National Guard. These duties often require me to attend numerous conferences, deployment ceremonies, welcome home ceremonies, ground-breaking ceremonies, nursing home, cemetery and readiness center visits, to name just a few. They have never complained or made me feel that my duty to the military was in any way a hardship for them. I thank them and am eternally grateful.” Cascade Investment Group is a stellar example of an outstanding employer who is worthy to be recognized for their superior support to our nation’s warriors.
