A History of Coleman
It Began with a Lantern
Over 100 years of service!
In 1900, W.C. Coleman sold lanterns to Kingfisher, Oklahoma merchants to pay for his final year in law school. His lantern’s popularity grew rapidly and by 1914, Coleman introduced the first 300 candlepower lantern lighting up rural America for generations to come. The Saturday Evening Post touted Coleman’s accomplishments: “Except Thomas Edison, Mr. Coleman may be responsible for the creation of more bright light than any other man.” The Coleman Company entered the Heating and Air Conditioning industry in the 1950s and has been synonymous with rugged and reliable performance in the great outdoors and the great indoors ever since.
