Conflict Man vs man :
Mrs Grimes have conflict with
her husband and son . they don’t
respect her as a women. they
made her as a slave and force
her to do works beyond her
capability .
Man vs society :
Mrs Grimes being ignored by
society.
Man vs circumstances :
Mrs Grimes having a hard life
trying to maintain foods supply
to feed the animals that she had
during heavy cold winter
season.




The conflicts is this short story is
man vs himself. Elisa is passive,
weak, and takes no responsibility for
her unfortunate circumstances. She's
simply too afraid to break out of her
role in the house, and lacks the
bravery necessary to take
responsibility for her life. Next is
man vs. society.Being a woman in
the world of "The Chrysanthemums"
is hard. Elisa to keep house and look
pretty, all while spending much of the
day alone and cut off from the
excitement of the outside world.
Womanhood translates into being
trapped, and it doesn't look like
anyone's about to stage a prison
break.
Setting The story happened during
winter.
The setting shows the social
condition of the lady as she
always being alone and no one
knows her

had changes so much from being

lesson trough the death accident.

‘The woman who died was one
destined to feed animal life.
Anyway, that is all she ever did.
She was feeding animal life
before she was born, as a child,
as a young woman working on
the farm of the German, after
she married, when she grew old
and when she died. She fed
animal life in cows, in chickens,
in pigs, in horses, in dogs, in
men. ‘

The main theme is transformation of
a woman. She begins in the story as
an isolated, lonely woman, and ends
it just the same. Elisa's major
transformation is from a woman who
is unaware of her own lack of
fulfilment, to one who is painfully
conscious of what her life is missing.

Symbolism
The old woman’s corpse
represents artistic inspiration.
As a child, the narrator sees
the body, and many years
later, as an adult, he finds
himself writing stories about
the fleeting yet haunting
image.
The chrysanthemum. The
flower symbolize both Elisa
and the limited scope of her
life. Like Elisa, the
chrysanthemums are lovely,
strong, and thriving. Their
flowerbed, like Elisa’s house,
is tidy and scrupulously
ordered. Elisa explicitly
identifies herself with the
flowers, even saying that she
becomes one with the plants
when she tends to them.
