In our craze to march into 21st century, we have imported and installed computer s in the country for every conceivable need and reqirement. Computers reduce the work-load and lead to efficiency and to a new work culture.The are the latest g adgets used in the rooms,offices and in other establishments. Soon we are likely to have mushrooming of computer culture in the country. What peoplse forget in their enthusiasm and zeal is that computer will ultimately affect our work force . Except for the few talented and trained persons, a large majority of illiterat e people in this country will have no use for these toys they will shoot up. Com puters will be doing work of millions of low-paid scribes in our offices and est ablishments. One computer meanspushing out at least twenty persons on the street without an adequated employment ormeans of livelihood. This side of the picture is indeed, formidable and frightening. If such a situation is not come to pass a few years hence, we must take some precautions. Computers must be used in oper ation where human ingenuity and skill is lacking. The must not mindlessly replac se workers in all walks of life.Com puter education and training must be gi ven to a selected few in phased manner.Proper fecilities must be provided in our educational institutions if this programme is to be an unqualifed success in th e near future. Of course,computers are not infaliable the are know to make mista ke, often costing human lives. The human element must be always there to chek ou t on such fatal mistakes tha may endanger its very existence. But all said and d one, computers must not be introdeced discriminately and the human factor consid ered from all angles if we are to march into the 21st csentury as a storon and v igorous nation.
