Who is ill ?
1. Bed ridden due to fever and body ache 2. Bed ridden due to severely sad, distressed

Who needs treatment ?
1. Chronic drinker with vomiting 2. His wife who attempted suicide

Physical Illness

Physical illness symptoms ± increase or decrease or variation in normal bodily function. Due to change in normal anatomical structure (e.g. fever and hypothermia) Mental illness symptoms ± high or low or variation in normal mental functions (thinking, emotions, perception, cognition). Due to change in neuro circuits, neurotransmissions (e.g. fear, mood)

When to diagnose mental disorder
- Changes in thinking, emotions, perception and cognition - Change in talk and behaviour (Different from previous personality or from norms of society. - Distress and suffering to patient and other - Dysfunctioning (Daily activities, work, relationship)

Examples 1) Sadness + distress + I. P. R. difficulties + social life dysfunction Depression 2) Impaired reality +distress + I. P. R. difficulties + social dysfunction Psychotic disorder
