THE ROAD ACCIDENTS IN INDIA

India tops the world in road accidentsAbout 4 lakh accidents per year About 80,000 people die every year About 4 lakh persons are injured every year Millions of minor mishaps go unreported Economic cost is about Rs. 6,000 crores per year

NATURE OF ACCIDENTS
60% of accidents occur during the night. Major accidents are head on collisions. Heavy vehicles are involved in major accidents. High ways account for a major share of accidents.

CAUSES OF ACCIDENTS
Human failure is the major cause for accidents. Glare from head lamps is a serious problem on Indian roads.

DAY Vs NIGHT DRIV ING Human Eye is a wonderful gift of nature. Nature has given us all visual capabilities for a natural life. Human beings were ordained/ destined to be active during day. The bright and uniform solar radiation helps us in the day. Modern man has created a new need for faster night travel. Artificial lamps invented to aid the vision during night. Artificial lamps also create disability glare. Naturally evolved eye can not cope with this glare. NIGHT DRIV ING THROWS A CHALLENGE

WHY NIGHT DRIVING IS A CHALLENGING T ASK?
What we sense visually depends on 1.Physical size of the object. 2.The illu mination towards the object. 3.The reflectance factor of the object. 4.Colour and lu minance contrast of the object. 5.Time constancy and it’s mo ment in space. 6. Physiological and psychological state. 7. Perception method of the viewer. PLUS Wattage of our head lamps. The direction and spread of our beam, The align ment of our lamps.
THE DISABILITY GLARE FROM AN OPPOSING MAIN BEAM WILL HAVE THE FINAL SAY

HOW TO AVOID GLARE?
The internationally accepted solution to avoid glare is to dip. All the automobiles come with a Dipper switch. All the automobiles are equipped with Main and Dip beams. THE KEY CONFLICT: MAIN BEAMS: Designed to illu minate a large field. DIP BEAMS : Designed to reduce glare to the opposite driver. VISIBILITY and GLA RE are the crucial issues. One needs to balance the needs of all road users. One needs to pay attention to safety above the speed. Dipping avoids GLARE.

Why the poor dipping practices in India?
Practical difficulties like sheer number of operations. Physically exhausted to operate a dipper switch in the late night. Psychologically frustrated to think coolly and rationally. All the attention focused on steering control at the cost of safety. Somet imes: Subjective factors like False ego, skepticis m, arrogance, Lack of concern, narrow v ision, etc can also come in the way. Solution to all the above issues—RAKSHA AUTO DIPPER--

RAKSHA-AUTO DIPPER
The main objective: pro motion of road safety The main function: auto matic control of head lamps Intelligence: Understands Lit and Dark roads Understands curved and straight roads Understands opposing DIP and MAIN beams Understands the dipper switch position Understands the head lamp ON/OFF status It is designed to withstand: 1. Vib rating environ ment 2. Bu mpy road 3. Temperature variat ions 4. Salty and chemical environ ment, etc

PHILOSOP HY OF RAKSHA 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. The roads are meant for all users on an equal footing. We have a right to travel like many others. The road safety is inter dependant and interlinked. If the opposite vehicle is driven safely we are safe. Our vehicle’s glare can make others to commit mistake. We can be the pilots in dipping for others to follow. By dipping our head lamps first we are leading a pat h.

THE KEY FUNCTIONS
It maintains head lamps in dip beam on lit roads. It maintains high beam on a dark road free of opposing Traffic It dips the lamps on sensing a four wheeler at 230 meters. It continues in the dip beam till cross if the opposite vehicle dips. It restores main beam at 130 meters if opposite vehicle does not dip. It responds even to a two wheeler/weak dip beam etc.

INSTALLATION OF RAKSHA.

RAKSHA can be installed in any automobile. The entire process has only two steps. 1. Physical installation 2. Electrical integration

Physical Installation of Raksha
Where to install RA KSHA

Physical Installation of Raksha
Raksha is to be installed at about 5 feet + 1 foot from the ground. In the case of trucks and buses the position could be at the lower end of the wind shield. For cars and jeeps this could be at the upper end of the wind shield.

For trucks and buses Raksha is placed as follows. Linked to Wind sheild

Fixed to the dash board top

Pedastal to the roof/frame.

Fixed to Wind sheild

Physical Installation of Raksha
After firmly fixing raksha at the selected location, it should be aligned to the axes of the automobile as shown below.

IMMUNITY OF RAKS HA RAKSHA is designed to be immune to unwant ed signals so that it can meet the needs of the actual field conditions.

How Raksha Speaks For convenience raksha indicates 1.Road lighting status – Lit road or Dark Road 2.Out put beam status and -- Main beam or Dip beam 3. The mode status -- AUTO or Manual

If the Solid state relay trips due to fault all LED’s will flash

ACTIVA TION OF RAKS HA Raksha will be active the moment the head lamps are switched ON and will be deactivated with switching OFF.

MODES OF RAKS HA: LIT ROAD MODE: Raksha enters into this mode on sensing that the road is well lit. DARK ROAD MODE : Raksha enters into this mode if the road is not well lit.

Operational control of raksha
Raksha integrates with the existing dipper switch and gets activated or deactivated as per the position of the switch.

Dipper switch integration continued

Operational control of RAKSHA continued

Maintenance of Raksha Raksha does not need any maint enance. How ever ensure that 1. The lens window is always clean. 2. The lens window is exposed to the opposing light. 3. The lens should not be touched with oily or greasy hands. Improper leveling will lead to improper functioning. Hence don’t disturb the level For best results: Use only efficient bulbs of sufficient wattage, aligned properly.

USERS OF ALL VEHICLES ! DIP YOUR LAMPS !! YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOOSE E XCEP T AN ACCIDE NT !!!
