Course Objectives
This module has two aims. Firstly, it extends the material covered in Financial Management, introducing students to a number of additional topics in corporate finance theory, including debt financing, dividend policy, mergers and acquisitions, and risk management. Secondly, the module illustrates the application of corporate finance theory to practical problems in corporate valuation and strategy through the use of case studies and external speakers. Module Specific Skills: On completing the module, students should be able to: • Estimate the cost of capital for a company; value a company using a spreadsheet model. • Understand the strategic and financial issues involved in corporate governance, corporate control, mergers and acquisitions and dividends. • Be familiar with the issues involved in raising capital, including project finance and venture capital. Discipline Specific Skills: The module should develop in students the ability to • Rigorously analyse quantitative problems in finance. • Evaluate competing financial theories of firm and investor behaviour. • Interpret financial data in the light of established theories of firm and investor behaviour. Personal and Key skills: This module will develop in students the ability to: • Analyse and evaluate quantitative problems. • Analyse case study material. • Work independently and as part of a group. • Write research reports. LEARNING/TEACHING METHODS The course is delivered using lectures, independent and group based study, and practical exercises ASSIGNMENTS: Students will be assigned exercise questions, case studies and specific reading on a weekly basis

In keeping with the BBA Policy Committee resolution the overall Grade Point Average for the course will be extremely close to 3.5/4.0. This means that approximately 35% in the course earn a letter grade of A while 55% earn a letter grade of B, and 10% will earn a letter grade of C.

Additional work or extra credit is not possible.
Class participation, a quality not merely a quantity concept, will be used in deciding boarder line cases. The exams and the Topic Questions will be a combination of multiple choice, short answer and quantitative questions. The exams are merely longer versions of the Topic Questions. Grading of the Topic Questions is based on effort rather than on accuracy. The purpose of the Topic Questions is for you to show evidence of your learning endeavors, this does not necessarily equate to perfect answers. Evidence that you attempted each question will be scored with 2 points. Incomplete responses will score 1 point. Late submissions or not turning in the Topic Question will earn zero points.
