Reasoning of choosing UTP and your course: Firstly, Universiti Teknologi Petronas has been my favorite local engineering university since I knew that lots of graduates from UTP get their jobs in about 6 months after finished their studies. Besides, I choose UTP because it has variety of races and nationality and also has numerous of beautiful architecture buildings such as Chancellor Complex, Academic Buildings and the hostels. Mechanical Engineering is the best for me because I have learnt the basic of mechanical knowledge when I was in high school, so I would love to go deep in it besides it has lots of jobs vacancies nowadays.

Problems and Solutions
Down-To-Earth is a community project which really tests the management skills of the students. A final word has been given by our Project Manager that Mechanical Engineering students will visit and organize an event at an orphanage. The first few places that were suggested had to be declined as they were already booked by other engineering courses. We managed to get Pusat Jagaan Anak-anak yatim, Manjoi, Perak. In planning the activities for the event, we had to bear with the rules and regulations set by the orphanage. This restricts many of our activities and we had to reduce them. The estimated budget seemed to be well-planned and reasonable. Nevertheless, we did not manage to fully gain the exact amount of money needed and forced us to cut cost where necessary. Our project manager emphasized the ‘ME boleh’ (ME can) spirit and convinced the committees that this is a project that is worth sacrificed for. After troubleshooting the problems, we managed to detect the flaws that existed in details. Transportation became a major problem for us. According to the transportation department, there was only one bus available to send all of us. We had to make two trips, almost 2 hours each and forced us to improvise our tentative. Though the problems seemed big, we still proceeded with what has been planned. This made us to be more tenacious and creative in tackling problems and generate new alternatives. Frankly speaking, most of us were generous in giving supports to the event, be it financially or physically and this became the source of inspiration for all of us to keep striving for the betterment of the program. It turned out that the committees did their very best as we obtained good feedbacks from the orphanage. For future references, we listed down the 3 major problems that existed when managing the Down-To-Earth project:

Biggest Problems: Choosing The Place and The date High Committee had the problems to choose the time and date for the event. We need to choose places that are not to far from UTP and we need to choose the suitable time for the event as we don’t want our event to be clash with classes. Our decision making skill are being test at the particular moment. We deal with this problem by having lots of discussion among the High Committee and with our lecturer. By having lots of discussion, we have a better understanding about an issue and at the end we come out with a decision to proceed our Down To Earth project at Pusat Jagaan Anak Anak Yatim, Manjoi.

Second Biggest problems: Communication among the High Committee with HOD and HOD We have quite a big organization. 6 High Committee and 8 departments and each department consist of almost 8 to 10 students. After decisions have been made, we had problems to pass the information to everybody in the organization. If information could not be spread, no works will be done. Miss communication can occur. This factor will lead to the failing of our project. Luckily, in this modern era we have the technologies to overcome this problem. We decided to use social media such as Facebook and Google docs as a medium to transfer and spread information between the high committee and the department. Alhamdulillah it went great. Spreading of information become easier and much efficient. Link to our Down To Earth database in Google Doc:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Am7xXCw8wF8dGFrUjRzbklmM1JEYUxQVkxsT1AzQ0E#gid=0

Third Biggest problems: Make sure everybody is doing their works We believe that by having 70 students participating in this event, there will be some students that will end up doing nothing. It is unfair as some of the students are doing the jobs while some of the students get credit for it. We need to think of a way that will make all students to at least participate and put effort for this event. That is when we decided to create up to 8 departments. By having lots of departments, each department will have minimum amount of works to do as we have divided the works equally among the 8 departments. Next, each department can distribute the works among the team members. This method will allow all students to contribute something for the event. Insyaallah.

Lessons Learnt
Here are few valuable lessons that we get throughout DTE project: 1. To achieve our goals, we need to train ourselves to be dedicated and talented. With these two skills, everything is going to be fine. The success of a project is largely dependent on the skills and strengths of the people involved. 2. We need to support each other when working in a team. A leader should know the strength and the weaknesses in their group members. A project may success if all members can their job perfectly with the guide and moral support from the leader. 3. Be grateful and thankful to Allah s.w.t with His give. Never blame Allah or other with the difficulties that we need to face in this life as there are many people who are less fortunate than we actually think we are. 4. Be patient with all tests and problems given by Allah. We need to believe that Allah will never give us the problems if we are not afford to face it. Make du’a as Allah is always listens to our prayer. 5. Do not judge people according to their social status. Do not under-estimate the poor or unfortunate people even though if we are from a good family as there must be a reason behind everything that happened. 6. Excuses are not work when something goes wrong. We need to try to find other alternatives instead of blaming others.

Recommendations for betterment of the Program
Here are a few recommendations on how to improve the program: 1. Do a simple research about the orphanages before doing the project. Find the better way to approach them. This may help us to become more understand the orphanages situation and felling. 2. More charity and fundraising event can be arranged nicely to increase the amount of donation. The well-planned fundraising event will help a lot in order to raise the amount of donation and good cooperation is required to handle the event. 3. Try to organize program in bilingual so that the international friends may feel the joy same as the local students did. The communication problems make the program less interesting for the international students. 4. Keep in touch will all donors that contribute in this program so that in future project, they might contribute more as they already have the trust toward us. This will help a lot to make our program in advance run smoothly. 5. We always need to have alternative back up plan to face all of the obstacles that might come. When the first plan does not work, we quickly need to come up with another plan to avoid any failure in the project.

Conclusion
We would like to express our gratitude to God the Almighty as with his bless we were able to complete our Down to Earth (DTE) Project successfully. Though there were a lot of circumstances appeared when preparing this project, we would never regret. This project gave us thousands valuable experiences which may help us in future, Insyaallah. We noticed that meeting and get along with the orphanages at Nurul Iman’s home was very exciting and interesting. That is why we really happy to handle this project. By managing this project, we are able to enhance our communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills that we have. As the high community of this project, we need to lead and assist our committee members to do their job according to their department and ensure that everything will run as what we wished to. Alhamdulillah, seven of us were able to work together as a team and contribute our ideas, opinions and suggestions. Miscommunication is very common in teamwork, but that made us become extra careful when doing our job and everything will be near to perfect. With the great achievement that we achieved from DTE Project, we would like to thank all participants that involved in this project especially to every departments’ members which were the main support for this program. Without them, our DTE Program will never succeed. We really hope that, everything that we had done during the project will benefit us in our daily life. Hopefully, the program similar to DTE Project can always be conducted in future.

Personal Reflection
I. Overall performances & improvement
 Currently busy with lots of assignments and projects from each subjects but Alhamdulillah could finished everything in time.  Got low mark in test 1 which is 6.5 and I have to stress more on my final exam and assignments to cover my coursework marks.  Indeed sometime I did not attend Ustaz’s class. I will try to not doing other works during classes next time.  Ustaz’s teaching is very meaningful and simple to catch. I have learnt so many things even not from the lecture notes.

II. Values of activities carried out in & out side of class
 The Down to Earth project held on 17th of November was the great projects I have been attend because it makes me realize how lucky I am to still have parents who never give up on taking care of me. The objective was achieved successfully.  Islamic Speech Review was done by groups in class. Alhamdulillah my group affords to finish the report and also the research on time.

III. Other suggestions
 The timetable should have longer period of time especially for Islamic Studies subject so that students and lecturers could have more discussion and refreshments either religiously or socially.  The students should take initiative and be more proactive on finishing the assignments given on time so that everything else could be catch up before final exam.
