I am writing to apply for the substitute teacher position in the Hillsborough Township School District. The position came to my attention through family and friends and is of my great interest. I am a junior at Rider University majoring in Elementary Education and Integrated Sciences and Mathematics with a minor in Middle school mathematics. I am also pursuing certificates in Technology and Leadership. Attached is my resume listing my further credentials for this position. As a graduate from the Hillsborough School District, my experience and education here, as well as at the collegiate level, have equipped me to fulfill the demands of this employment. Hillsborough High School¶s Preschool Program confirmed my passion for teaching and has allowed me to advance my career in education. I have experience in preschool through middle school and in special education classrooms. I am familiar with curriculums centered on Everyday Math and have experience in performing literacy assessments including running records, oral evaluations, and writing/spelling inventories. Outside of the classroom, I work with children through community service organizations including Big brothers, Big sisters and in peer mentor relationships during High school and College. I was the first recipient of the Ci Hoover award, an honorary scholarship for the student who displays the most dedication to the field of education, as well as the two departmental awards (one for my work in the Preschool Program at Hillsborough High School). My participation in honors societies and academic organizations has continued at Rider University as can be seen on my resume. I am particularly interested in substituting for the Hillsborough Township School District because I can fulfill the mission of providing students with a superior education that prepares them for successful future endeavors. I am capable of creating a safe and comfortable environment for students while employing critical thinking, problems solving and life skills throughout content areas. Before you can teach a child you must love them, and my passion toward teaching and Hillsborough Schools makes me the best candidate to be a substitute teacher in your district.
