For this assignment I interviewed a small business owner from my community and used the information gathered from the interview to create a job description for the business. I spoke with Linda Burfict owner of Burfict's Tax Prep Services, which is a family owned tax  preparation company located in Richmond, California. Her company has been in existence since 2000 and was founded on the advice of family and friends whose taxes she had prepared for  more than 25 years. The company motto motto is "Taxes with a personal touch." Burfict's Tax Prep Services offers online tax preparation services for 1040ez and 1040a, individual tax preparation with E-file and RAL programs and small business tax preparation p reparation with E-file and RAL  programs. Other services include automatic deposit of refunds, electronic payments, amendments, and estimations. During the interview when I asked Mrs.  Burfict how and when she would determine the need to create a position within her business she told me that she was considering hiring an additional part-time tax preparer for the upcoming tax season. When, asked what prompted this decision she told me that last year she  ran an ad on Facebook offering customers a 10% discount if the ad mentioned. She received a sizeable uplift in customers from the ad and plans to run the ad again this year and will also add a 10% referral discount. Based on last year's uplift from the Facebook ad and the anticipated uplift from the referral discount she thinks it is time that she considered hiring another tax preparer to assist her with processing returns. Since she is in the process of hiring a new employee I asked her what strategy she, used to outline the  position details. She told me that she outlined o utlined a her typical day as a tax preparer as well as looked at job postings postings from websi websites tes like Career Builder and Monster Jobs. I informed her that what she did was what is  called a " Job Analysis", which is the process of identifying and determining in detail the particular job duties and requirements of a specified position.

Next I asked her what duties du ties will the tax preparer perform on-the-job and are there any specific requirements for this position? position? She replied that their main responsibilities wil willl be to interview clients, provide tax information, answer tax-related questions and prepare tax returns. She is looking for someone with a college degree in Accounting or Business. They must hold a valid license such as a Licensed Tax Preparer, Licensed Tax Consultant or be an enrolled agent or  Certified Public Accountant and all Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits must be upto-date. They must have a current current Preparer Tax Identification Identification Number (PTIN) with the IIRS, RS, five years experience preparing both state and federal tax returns, have good customer service, communication and computer skills, and work well we ll with people. After speaking with Ms. Burfict I developed the following job description for her  company.

The rationale behind creating this job description was to help Mrs. Burfict find a qualified candidate for her open position. According to Craig Dobbins and Cole Ehmke (n.d) when putting together a job description you must focus on what the position needs to be in light of the  business’s current needs and long-term objectives. I incorporated the information gathered during my interview with Mrs. Burfict to develop a job description that will achieve her desired goal.
