Crime Thriller by Ricky Everett Bright and early on a cold November morning, Mike gets changed into his pilots uniform, just before dashing out of his hotel room he quickly returns to the bathroom to pick up the kilo of ‘Charlie’ that he has stored under the sink. Running late he rushes down to the valet to pick up his Ford Sierra, how he hates having to drive a rental car and even over the many years of having to do so, he’s never gotten used to the idea, especially now even more so; a Ford just brought back bad memories of his father, Papa would only ever drive an American car: ‘not that Jap Crap’ he always used to say. No time now for memories, he swiftly makes his way to the Quebec airport, where a brand new Boeing 747 was waiting for him, supplied by Delta Airways, the company he has worked been working for these past 25 years. Today he is flying to Mumbai, India; where when he lands he was going to sell his kilo of Charlie’ to a man named Victor, who his friend Oscar had put him in touch with. When he got into the cockpit of the plane his co-pilot was already there, drinking an apple tango and watching the recorded game from this weekends game at the Yankee Stadium. ‘I’d rather be sat down watching Zulu and enjoying a nice single malt Whiskey’ Mike thought to himself. Luckily one of the stewards had left him a copy of Romeo and Juliet to read whilst he waiting for the passengers to board the plane. “Good morning Tom, does my understudy need any extra training before take off?” Mike said to his co-pilot, asserting himself as the Alpha male on board. “Very funny Mike, I’m sure I’ll be fine, I have been doing this job for over three years now”. To avoid the awkward silence that could ensue, Mike decides to ask Tom how he has spent his weekend off, Tom precedes to tell Mike of how he had enjoyed a great round of golf and how he had impressed a hot young woman with his foxtrot whilst out on Saturday night. Mike had let his mind wonder after not too long and become aware of strange echoes of sirens roaming through his head.
