Probable Cause – necessary in order to get a warrant
Liability – taking responsibility for a crime
Entrapment – the police for you to do it
Excuses – a reason why a crime may happen

Double Jeopardy – being tried for the same crime twice
3 levels of court

Procedural Due process
Police use of force – using non-lethal force to complete the police task
Deadly force is only used when a threat is at hand.
Internal affair – responsible for managing the police
4th Amendment – deals with unreasonable search and seizure
5th Amendment – deals with Miranda Custody
6th Amendment – right to council or charge
Quality of offenses – Broken Window Theory the environment give
appearance to that people don’t care.
Police organization
Military style organization – chain style organization
Kansas City experiment – increasing number of officers in an area does
not reduce crime.
Line function – officers out in the street
Support function – those that are behind the scenes at the base.
Community Policing – getting involved with the police in a community.
Actus Reus – in order to be charged with a crime you have to have
done a crime
Mens Reus – fact that you committed a crime ex. Selling heroine and
user dies. Dealer will be charged for Manslaughter.
Subsidive Criminal Law – spells out the crime in court-police context.
Ex. Manslaughter, Unlawful trespassing
Malice of forthought – the evil mind or intent to criminal acts
Booking – fingerprinted and documented into the system.
Grand Jury – return enditement, determine who should be prosecuted.
Crime that goes unreported – Sexual harassment is the least reported
crime
Jurisdiction – Geographical area of the crime, who listens will all be
tried in the area.
Proactive and Reactive – Cops documenting a scenario vs. answering
calls
Clearance Rate – amount of crimes reported to the ones you solve
In order to be a police – several tests must be passed to ensure proper
