Key Recommendations
In keeping with the organizations future business needs, DFG should focus on re-engineering business processes and invest in supporting technologies by setting up frame work for technical planning process comprising Business component and Technical component Business Component • Logical grouping of business processes and associated systems into Business Process Domains (BPDs)  In store systems, business unit operational systems, business unit analytical systems, group systems and core infrastructure services • Availability, Assurance, Usability and Adaptability crucial for success of systems within each BPD • Store systems, Inventory management, Category management and E-commerce processes identified for reengineering

Store Systems • A client server architecture with support for scalability, adaptability and remote maintenance • Standardized technology along with a centralized data storage facilitating stock monitoring at the store level. • Store applications redesigned to help better decision making and support new channels of marketing Inventory Management • Leveraging the strategy of operating as a single entity to achieve economies of scale • Central merchandising system to monitor inventory levels and generate store orders • Minimizes stock outages, reduces purchase orders and invoices, increases negotiating power with suppliers • Future integration of the supply chain across business units and continual stock level monitoring by suppliers

Category Management and E-Commerce: • Leveraging data warehousing technology to facilitate market research for sensing and responding to customer needs • Exploiting advertising platforms on the web to boost sales • Refraining from development of an e-commerce platform due to security apprehensions from customers

Technical Component • Development of Core Infrastructure Services (CIS) to link, support and integrate supply chains across business units. • Corporate-wide area network to inter-connecting various BPDs to enable group wide information management capability • Special focus on security and credibility of key BPDs like analytical and In-store BPD

• CIS development to be carried in a phased manner:  Scope limited to inter-business services in initial phase  Services to be extended to intra-business units with eventual resonance between functions & information systems • CIS to ensure continuous availability of systems, more flexibility in terms of inter-operability & user-friendly interfaces Technology Planning Team • Technology Architecture Program Group (TAPG) to be developed which will comprise of Technical Architecture team, Technology partners and Technology consultants • TAGP to follow a seven point strategy for the development, review and adoption process of technical architecture
