Program Purpose/Target Audience

This program provides a comprehensive, multidisciplinary educational offering designed for healthcare professionals, law enforcement officers, counselors, social workers and educators to enhance knowledge and skills relevant to sexual assault prevention and supportive care of women following an assault.

Program Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to: 1. Recognize potential risk factors for victimization and perpetration of sexual assault. 2. Critically analyze evidence-based strategies geared toward decreasing the risk of sexual assault and increasing empowerment among women. 3. Outline the roles of the healthcare team, law enforcement and school officials in terms of education and management of exposure to sexual violence. 4. Identify community resources with an emphasis on the prevention, identification and management of sexual assault of women. 5. Explore the growing epidemic of human trafficking and its consequences for women.

This program is sponsored by Woman’s Hospital, in collaboration with the Iris Domestic Violence Center of Baton Rouge (formerly the Capital Area Family Violence and Intervention Center), and the Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response Center (S.T.A.R.) of Baton Rouge.
