Dear Andrew,
Hello, my name is Hannah Edwards and I almost always go by Hannah. My name is
pretty common but I couldn’t see myself with any other name. I am from the country part of
Winston-Salem which I love because it doesn’t have the fast paced style of the city. I chose to
come to UNC Charlotte because I wanted to attend a college that had an Air Force ROTC
program and go into the Air Force after college. Once I got here I changed my plan to involve
criminal justice and I haven’t decided if I still want to go into the Air Force. Another reason why
I chose to attend UNC Charlotte was because it was close to home and it only takes about an
hour to drive home.
In this course, I expect to grow from the writing skills I learned in high school and
become a more developed writer. I also hope to become a better editor to help my peers and
myself. Some concerns that I have about this course would be deciding how to write my papers
in a way that would include all the ideas that appeal to the professor’s wants. I also worry that
I’ll have trouble keeping my thoughts together and not jump around with jumbles thoughts. All
in all, I consider myself a well-rounded reader because I enjoy reading and immersing myself in
a good story. I sometimes have trouble staying focused on stories that ramble and repeat
information.
My talents as a writer are not as strong as my reading abilities because I often have
trouble trying to think of new words instead of being repetitive with small words. I also need to
learn how to be a better proofreader so I can catch more errors. I think as a writer I am better at
fact based papers but I think I would enjoy writing fiction because it involves more creativity. A
fact about myself that is interesting is that I have an identical twin sister who attends Greensboro
College.
The quote I really like from the syllabus is the one written by Hugh Downs. This quote
perfectly describes how everything in life is connected. I think this quote means that decisions in
life can affect the people around them. I think you included this quote under the policies section
of the syllabus because if the policies are not followed then it can alter one’s path in college. This
quote relates to the material on the syllabus because you have to follow the guidelines on it or it
can affect your decisions in the future. In this course, this quote means trying your hardest to do
well and help the other students in the class. A question I still have after the class discussion is
whether or not most our work is posted online or if most of it is hardcopies.
Sincerely,
Hannah Edwards
