CHOCOLATE DISH
December 2009 EDITION By now I hope you have all seen the full page recruitment ads that appeared in People magazine and US Weekly. The number of leads coming in is a testament to our appealing offering. We go to market with a recognized brand name, affordably priced products that appeal to both men and women of all ages, and a fun, engaging shopping experience with our Tasting Parties. I just returned from Las Vegas where I attended a 2 day Direct Selling Association Seminar on Social Media. We know communications vehicles like Facebook, You Tube, Linked In, Twitter and others sites are changing the way we build relationships, and talk about products and companies. I’ll share many of the insights I learned when we see each other at the President’s Leadership Conference in Napa in early February. I wish each of you joyful holidays filled with peace, happiness and love. I look forward to celebrating a new year that promises to be exciting, full of surprises and one that will provide lots of opportunities for personal growth and fulfillment. Happy Holidays,

Once again, I extend to all of you a very big CONGRATULATIONS! Your selling, recruiting and leadership performance this holiday season has been awesome. Our average party size on a national basis exceeded $420 and the number of individual parties over $1,000 increased by 207%. We had a record number of new rank promotions as well, and special congratulations go to Stephanie Weinberger from New Jersey who promoted to Director, and Vanessa Rivera and Jill Young, both from California, who promoted to Senior Managers. As a young business we enjoyed a very successful year, thanks in large part to the partnership between our talented home office team and you, our dedicated Chocolatiers. We grew well over 100% during the “great recession” of 2009 and at time when many businesses were failing or just holding on. The new products introduced this year all performed well, and the bundled offers this season helped increase the size of customer purchases. I think you’ll all agree with me that our catalogs and entertaining guides continue to improve each new season, and the addition of new tools like The Chocolate Drizzle help keep you and our products front and center with your customers. But, it is your ideas, suggestions and creativity that have contributed greatly to our collective success.

Giving the Gift
In team building, being able to recruit is the key to future success. How we think about recruiting is also vital to that success. DCD Managers recently participated in a learning series presented by Pat Pearson, an internationally known author and motivational speaker with a passion for inspiring individuals to claim their own personal excellence. Pat shared the concept of Gratitude Recruiting – being grateful for the gifts you have received and sharing those gifts with others. This is especially true during the holiday season when our thoughts turn to gift giving. What better gift to give than the gift of being a DCD Chocolatier – flexibility, financial freedom and more. Overcome FEAR Key to sharing the gift is the ability to overcome the basic fear of rejection. Block out the negative voice in your head, and think of recruiting as giving a special gift. The fear of hearing “no” can discourage us from trying. But people’s lives change and “no” often means “not right now,” or “talk to me later”. They may feel their life is just too busy. Everyone’s life changes – plan to check back in 6 months. Don’t fear rejection and remember, 90% of what you worry about doesn’t happen anyway. Make Gift Giving Your Purpose Approach each prospective recruit with the attitude of “I choose,” to share the gift. Make it your purpose. When you look at it this way you get a high energy feeling about yourself, a feeling of excitement, a rush of enthusiasm, and a return to the “Go for it” attitude you felt when you first started your business. It will give you cause to celebrate your accomplishments and take pride in changing people’s lives. Take a minute and think about the “gifts” in your life that you’ve received since being a Chocolatier. Who will you share the DCD gift with?

In December, you can..

“DCD has given me the gift of time with my family. I was working 70+ hours a week at my last job. My father has been very ill, and I couldn’t spend as much time with my grandchildren as I wanted. That’s all changed now since I joined DCD. I can be there for my family. I am empowered. I set my own hours and the opportunity for financial growth is tremendous. I feel lucky to be part of this ground floor opportunity.” ~ Crystal Marler

“DCD has given me the gift of confidence. I used to be quiet and shy. Now I find myself enjoying speaking to a group and loving it. I truly believe this business has brought the real me out. DCD is constantly recognizing my accomplishments and so is my family. My family is so proud of me and that feels really good. I was able to give my family the gift of a family vacation to Disney World this summer. It was a wonderful trip.” ~ Liz Kowalski “The best gift that I have received from my DCD business is the friends and the relationships I have formed. My DCD team has become part of my family. We treat each other with respect, mutual admiration and encouragement. They are part of my personal life as well as my business life. Also, since joining DCD I have learned a lot about myself as a leader. I feel I am doing what I was meant to do and I love it. I’m not worried about corporate lay-offs or not enough time with the family. I can focus on what’s important in my life which brings me peace.” ~ Vanessa Rivera

President’s Leadership Conference
There are just 8 weeks left before our annual President’s Leadership Conference on February 4 - 6 in exciting and beautiful Napa Valley, California. And this year’s meeting is shaping up to be one momentous event! Fun and packed with top-notch guest speakers and training, fantastic meeting facilities and giveaways, and sneak peeks at new products and catalog materials are just a few reasons to attend. It’s a perfect way to build on the New Year’s strong beginning and learn businessbuilding techniques to ensure a wonderful future for your DCD business.

A Taste of Success
Nicki Keohohou, CEO of the Direct Selling Women’s Alliance, is this year’s keynote speaker. She recently tempted us with snippets of the topics she’ll cover during her full-day training session at PLC. (Listen here). Among other things to look forward to, Nicki will cover: • how to connect the head and heart to achieve success; • understanding and leveraging the emotional “why” - versus the material “why”; and • using enlightened vocabulary to empower others. Plus, Nicki promises you’ll leave PLC with a clear step-by-step plan for growing your business in 2010. According to Nicki, “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Let her put you in the “know” and come to Conference. You’ll leave with a clear picture of what to do, how to do it, when to do it and the why behind doing it. This is a don’t miss opportunity!

Introducing PLC Website
This month we’ll launch PLC Central – your one-stop, online location for everything about PLC located off the Chocolatier Connection. Soon, you’ll find the meeting agenda, messages, transportation/accommodation details, speaker bios, deadlines, cost-saving ideas and more on the site. Look for it in the coming weeks and check the site frequently before and after conference for updates.

A G Start the New Year with a B N !
Don’t let your January party schedule get lost in the holiday shuffle. Get January started with a BANG! and build momentum for the rest of the year. To have a successful January, you need to focus on booking parties now. If you wait until after the holidays, your business may suffer the first few weeks of the year. So, focus on building your party line-up in January. Here are some suggestions: 1. Know the dates that you are available to hold Tasting Parties in January. Take your Open Date Card to each holiday party and everywhere else, too. 2. Identify goals for January Tasting Parties. Now, how many do you need to hold? How many potential Hosts do you need to get at each? How many Chocolatiers do you need to sponsor? 3. Connect with prior Hosts from 6 months ago or longer. 4. Offer an extra incentive to those that book in the first two weeks of January. Keep your costs down by offering a mug from the dollar store with a packet of Chai Tea. 5. Use your WARM™ Call Report to follow-up with anyone that showed interest in the Host Opportunity. Make sure you’ve added all new contacts to ensure they get the Chocolate Drizzle later this month. Customize your message to encourage bookings and the DCD opportunity in January. 6. Host a New Year Kick-Off Party for your friends and family. 7. Offer a Valentine Candy Making Workshop in January. 8. Over book. No matter how much you prepare and plan, there will be Hosts that will need to reschedule.

Supplies and Ingredients
Yield: 1 – 8” pan of Chocolate Fudge

c a Fu g

Ingredients:
• 9 ea. (18 oz) DCD Chef Series Dark Chocolate bars, chopped or 2 1/3 cups DCD Single Origin Baking Bits • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda • Pinch of salt • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed whole milk • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract • 1 cup toasted walnuts, chopped • 1 sheet DCD Parchment Paper

Directions:
1) Cut parchment paper in half, width wise. Fold each half and fit into an 8” square baking pan, allowing the excess paper to overhang the pan sides. 2) In a microwave-safe bowl, toss chocolate, baking soda, and salt until evenly distributed. Pour in sweetened condensed milk and vanilla, and heat in the microwave at 20-second intervals until almost fully melted and a few small pieces of chocolate remain. 3) Remove from microwave, and continue to stir until all chocolate is fully melted. Stir in walnuts, and pour fudge into the prepared baking pan, spreading in an even layer with a DCD off-set spatula. 4) Refrigerate until set, about 2 hours. Remove fudge from pan and cut into squares.

~Chef’s Tip~
Toasting brings out the flavor of nuts and whole spices. Just pour these out onto a parchment paper lined sheet tray, and bake in a 400 degree oven for 5-10 minutes, or until you begin to smell toasted nuts. Give them a quick stir, and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes. Be careful not to burn!

Happy Holidays to our entire DCD family!

Holiday Stress Busters
Hectic, hassled, harried, hurried – sound familiar? ‘Tis the season that’s full of wrapping and sending gifts, extra cooking, and entertaining - not to mention a full datebook of Tasting Parties. All these activities can stress you out and take all the joy out of the season. Relax...
Here’s a few tips to keep the “happy” in your holidays – making them both fun and profitable! people during the holidays then any other time of the year. Be ready and prepared with booking materials and open dates to eliminate frustration.

Put your tunes on

On your way to and from your Tasting Parties, recruiting interviews or just daily activities, listen to your favorite music or tune into a soothing, soft holiday music station. This can really lighten your mood and energize you – focusing you on the positive.

Allow extra time

Have fun

The holidays are a time for giving. And, the more you give, the more you get back. Look forward to and enjoy this special time of the year with a relaxed and happy attitude. Others will take their cue from you.

If you schedule too many things into each day you will be left with the feeling you haven’t accomplished everything you planned. This leads to undue stress. New situations occur every day and can take precedence over planned activities. Build in extra time, so you can avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Eat healthy

Don’t skip meals or eat on the run if you can help it. Take time to enjoy a lunch break. Use that time to review your day’s progress and refocus on your goals for the day.

Mini vacations

Be prepared

Always carry your business cards, catalogs, and your datebook. You will be seeing more

If you’re caught in traffic or otherwise sidetracked, don’t get frustrated. Take a mini vacation – free your mind of the day’s pressures and go to that “happy” place in your head. Worrying won’t make the traffic move faster, and this is a great way to relieve stress.

Get some sleep

Sleep is a great way to rejuvenate your body, mind and spirit. Remember, everything is difficult when you don’t have the energy to meet the demands of the day.

At Your Service
Your personal DCD website is your interface with your team and the world – a powerful tool for your business! Are you making the most of it? For example, did you know that you can add links to documents and websites outside your site? Here’s a ready-made link to our Chocolate of the month promotion for you to copy and paste into your personal DCD website message: <a href=”https://tools.dovechocolateathome.com/sharedfiles/publishing/admin/image_gallery/en_US/Chocolate%20of%20the%20 Month%20Club.pdf” target=”_blank”>Chocolate of the Month Club To add a link of your own choosing, here’s how: Step 1: Open the web page or online document you want to link to. Step 2: Go to the web address field at the top and copy the URL (usually starts with www or http). Step 3: Open your personal website; choose My Business tab and Personalize Site. Step 4: In section C, paste the address you just copied, and put “ ” around it. Now put behind it. Now type the text you want to link and put after it. Remember any links you create need to be in line with DCD policies and procedures. This section offers technical tips and help with topics that have been on Chocolatiers minds.
