Decision Support System Objectives This lecture discusses the technology to develop applications of Decision Support System (DSS), where decision making is not only supported by the intuition of the leadership but also supported by the analysis of a collection of existing data. The topics to be covered include: discussion of theories of decision making (decision theory) and operations research, which is useful for management to help make decisions. Then proceed with the discussion of the concept of SPK, characteristics, components and architecture of SPK. Further discussed how to build an SPK. Then discussed specific topics such as the PRS: a Group Decision Support Systems and Data Warehouse.Prerequisite: Databases, System Analysis & Design Bibliography Turban, Efraim & Jay E. Is Penun System which Decision? • In about the year 1960-1970, Decision Support System (Decision Support System) began to introduce treated. Decision Support System is designed to develop the effectiveness and productivity of managers and professionals. • DSS is an interactive system that is often used by individuals who have had minimal experience with computers and methodological de analysis. The system also includes various types of systems, devices and technologies in the development of an organization. • DSS is used to assist decision makers in making decisions so that the resulting decisions to be right on target and really - really useful for the organization.

Reason (background) why require SPK • Requires accurate and new information quickly. • SPK is often regarded as the success of an organization. • Management mandates the need for SPK in the organization. • The information required depends on the time (according to the circumstances). • The need for operational cost savings. SPK objectives: Help managers make decisions to solve semi-structured • Support the assessment or decision of the manager rather than replace it. • Improve the effectiveness of decision-making managers rather than efficiency Imagine an organization where the managers can not use a computer to assist activity that requires a decision. Compare the above picture of an organization in which its managers routinely use computers to acquire and process knowledge that underlies a decision made. SPK to store and process the various types of knowledge very quickly from the human mind. In addition to efficiency gains, SPK is very effective in handling various kinds of knowledge because they do not have the human condition such as fatigue, forgetfulness, error calculation, and stress. Failure to mengaktualisaskan various decision support can make the managers and their organizations in a disadvantaged position.

Formation SPK Subsystem Data Management consists of elements:¬ DSS Database • Database Management System. • Data Directory. • Query Directory. Model Management • Model Base. • Base Model Manegement System.

• Modeling Language. • Model Directory .. • Model Execution, Integration, and Command. • User Interface (Dialog Management). Knowledge Management DSS Database Users typically create or improve on the model of personal computer and restore it on the mainframe, many users store the data supporting its decision on the PC, in the form of a spreadsheet. Access requirements of the DSS database is very different from the routine computerized database for. DSS database is required to handle multi-dimensional data efficiently and allow for flexibility, full of relational operations such as searching, projection, and combining relations. The variation mechanism can be used to facilitate the search and incorporation of data and increase the complexity of the data. This mechanism lowers the performance of the update data thatmany

category data Data in the SPK consists of: ¬ Internal Data The data obtained from within the organization such as employeesand payroll data, machine data. Adalahsumber transaction datafrom the internal data. ¬ External Data Data outside the organization such as data insustri, marketing research, government regulation, the Dow Jones Information Systems and others - others.  Private Data. Data contains "rule of thumb" used by decision makers and theresearch of data or specific situations.

Hierarchy of Data Organization • The data can be compiled in a data organizations that follow a hierarchy. • The hierarchy is obtained by combining elements from previous levels. • 6 levels of the hierarchy of data organization, is a Bit, characterdata elements / fields, records, files & database. definition of Database • turban The database is a collection of related data, which are arranged so that related to the structure and needs of an enterprise, and can be used by more than 1 person & more than one application. • DATE A database is a collection of stored operational data used by theapplication systems of some particular enterprise. DBMS capabilities in SPK • Capture / extract data to be included in the PRS database. • Change (add, delete, update) the records and files quickly • The relationship of data with different sources • Retrieve data quickly from the database to query and report • Provide data security (protection from unathorized access, the ability of recovery • Handling of personal data that can be used for alternativesolutions • Perform a complex search query and data manipulation • Tracks usage of data Database Management gave a similar structure to organize knowledge and have long been used first for descriptive knowledge. • Using a relational approach (relationship) in the management database, each database compiled by one or several tables. Each table has the structure specified in this field and container are formed into several records. Definition Query Facility • Query facility provides the basis for access to data • Query facility received a request to the data (from other DSS components), to determine how this query can be met (if it needs to be checked in the Data Directory), to formulate the details or send a request and returns the results to the requesting • With a query facility, the decision-making can add the desired data from a database in a short time.

Database Queries (Source: James Martin, Information Engineering Book III, page 319) Can be classified into 4 types: 1. Primary - Key queries. A record is accessed from the primary key. This can be done quickly and use the circulation of a little machine

2. Single - secondary - key queries. This query type is a diagram showing the data model as a secondary - key path. require more than the circulation of the engine queries the primary key. 3. Multiple - secondary - key queries. This type requires a secondary access-key. The use of more complex and expensive 4. Unanticipated search queries. Secondary-key time-consuming queries relatively quickly if there is a suitable secondary index. If not then required to request a record search of records at the same time. Directory Data Definitions / Dictionary • Data Directory (DD) is a catalog of all existing data in the database • DD contains definitions of data and its main function is to respond to statements about the availability of data items, source, or the precise meaning • DD supports the intelligence phase of decision-making process by helping to locate data and identify problem areas or opportunities • DD contains all the information about the data entities and relationships (relationship) that exist, • So it can be said DD is itself a complex database • DD can be organized using a hierarchical network or relationship data model Separate DBMS (Source: James Martin, Information Engineering Book III, page 324) Further considerations may lead to a database management system used separately. Here are the reasons why we need more than one DBMS: • production systems and decision support system uses a separate DBMS. • The fourth-generation language uses its own DBMS, different from those used in previous systems • The high productivity and heavy operating system uses a different DBMS. In some cases a separate DBMS designed to function cooperatively. For example, the software allows the data is formed from a system of production into the spreadsheet or SPK. Knowledge Management • Focus on knowledge presentation and processing of two different angles. • First, there are several computerized techniques that are based on individual approach to displaying and processing of knowledge. • Secondly, the need to know the different types of knowledge is important that decision makers need to be addressed. Device Database provides various variants of database techniques to manage knowledge. Company Profile PT. GC is a company engaged in apparel. The company was founded in 1980 and is a subsidiary of Singapore's apparel. PT.GC actually only serve the order given by its parent company in Singapore and all products intended for import. To serve this order online, PT. GC has 991 workers including 11 persons of foreign workers. 550 machines are arranged in 24 lines of production. Various companies that become its customers are

Adidas, Fila, Motorola, Nike, Spottec, etc.. Each month PT. GC have completed more than 175 thousand pieces of apparel in sizes and models in accordance with the order. The Problems Faced As noted above, PT. GC received no production orders directly from consumers but on orders from its parent company in Singapore. However management of PT. GC must decide whether an order through the parent company will be accepted or not. Any orders from the parent company can be directly received or not depends on the availability of production capacity. Therefore, every time the management should know the position of the capacity of the machines. It can dilakukankalau companies have good planning. Because PT. GC can be considered as a company that is Job Order perencanaanya then the process is not as easy as companies make to stock. In companies that are the make to stock planning can be done on a regular basis and regularly. However, the job nature perurahaan Order, perencanaanya should always be done whenever there is an order. This has become the main problems faced by PT. GC. At this time, because the process of scheduling is still done manually, then the production scheduling done when incoming orders had enough. As a result of PT. GC can not be answered directly from the company indunknya orders. Such conditions will reduce the trust and the transfer order to another subsidiary. To answer the above issues, we need a management tool that can facilitate themselves to determine the acceptance of an order. Formulation of Problems From the above problem requires a management tool that is able to support himself for a decision regarding the acceptance of an order. It should be noted that to make a decision as mentioned above, management needs information about the availability of production resources it has. The information referred to diantranya availability of machines, operators, and raw materials. In addition, management must also be convinced that the utilization of resources dimilikanya production is optimal. Sample Case Study Application of Decision Support System In Reception Scholarship Selection in UPI-YPTK Padang Each decision will impact on the object to the decision.Application of DSS in the selection of scholarship acceptance using a mathematical model by applying a static model is appropriate. The model was developed into 3 phases namely: determining variables, making the input and create output, so that from the model created computer program. The results of data processing produce information that can help decision-makers. Preliminary The end result of a data processing may include such information, where information is useful to take a decision within meneyelesaikan the problems that exist. In many cases the information that there is not sufficient to make specific decisions in solving specific problems. Decision support system (Decision Support System) was created as a way to meet this need. DSS provides troubleshooting information and communications capabilities in Semistructured problem-solving. Information to produce data in the form of periodic and special reports and the outputs of mathematical models and expert systems. So also in line with the development of DSS was widely applied in various agencies to resolve problems that exist and so there are problems in higher education in terms of the distribution of scholarships to students, because too much demand, while scholarships are very limited number of recipients, then in this case the collector keputusn be really selective. The goal of DSS Pioneer DSS others at MIT, Peter GW Keen, in collaboration with Scott Morton to define three goals to be achieved DSS, namely: to help managers make decisions to solve semistructured.Support the assessment manager does not mean trying to replace it. Improve the effectiveness of decision-making managers in this efisiensinya.Tujuan associated with three basic principles of the concept of DSS - Structure of problems, support the decision of the effectiveness of the decision. DSS only focuses on the problems of semi - structured course, following the position of the DSS image at the level strukutur problem. DSS Model Data and information is entered into the data base of environmental companies / agencies. The data base also contains data provided by SIA. The contents of data base used by the three software subsystems, namely: Report Writing Software: generate periodic and special reports. Mathematical model: generating information as a result of a simulation involving one or more components of physical systems companies / institutions, or various aspects of its operations.Mathematical model can be written in any procedural programming language. But a special modeling language eases the task and has the potential to work better. GDSS software: allows multiple problem solvers, work together as a group, reach a solution. In this particular situation, the term GDSS, or group decision support system (Group Decision Support System) is used. The group members communicate with each other either directly mapupun through GDSS software. Mathematical Model In this case the mathematical model is appropriate for use, of the three groups of

mathematical models, namely: Or dynamic system model Or deterministic model probabilistically Optimization models or sub-optimization Then selected using a static model, which this model does not include time as a variable and the model relates to a situation at a particular point in time. Modeling The first step should be done in the design of this system are: Determine the variables After analyzing it as a reference, there are several variables in solving the problem in this case, namely: Educational Background of parents Parents work Income parents Status of the elderly men Address of parents Sitting in the semester GPA The last IP Scholarship status Jumalah brothers Of the variables that exist can be developed into more extensive by entering values into it. a. Educational Background of parents * SD 80 points * Junior point 70 * High Point 60 * PT point 40 b. Advantages and Disadvantages of Modeling advantages: Process modeling can be an advanced learning experience. Can be ascertained, on each project to learn something new modelsof physical systems. Speed of the simulation process provides the ability to evaluate the impact of decisions in the short term. Within minutes, can besimulated operation of the company for several months, quarters,or years. The model provides an insight into the predictive power of the future that can not be provided by another information pengahsilmethod. The model is more expensive than trial and error method.Process modeling is expensive dala terms of development timeas well as software and hardware needed, but the cost is not as high costs resulting from poor decisions.

losses: The difficulty of making the model will result in a model that does not capture all the influences on the entity. High-level math skills needed to develop the models themselvesare more complex. conclusion DSS program can help the field of student affairs in higher education in terms selesksi scholarship and are expected tomore appropriate decisions taken so that the student be givenalso to those in need. Kan but in accordance with the objectivesof DSS that in principle only help decision-makers rather thanreplace decision makers.
