DEGREES WITH HONOURS AND HONOURS DEGREES PRINCIPLES
PURPOSE The University may award Honours Degrees (nominal one year equivalent full-time program equating to a minimum of 48 UC) and Degrees with Honours (nominal four year equivalent full-time program equating to a minimum of 192 UC).

SCOPE

These principles apply to undergraduate programs only.

PRINCIPLES

Students who have completed an initial three year equivalent Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline with a Weighted Grade Point Average (WGPA) of at least 5.5, except where otherwise identified in the specific University accreditation of particular programs, may enter an Honours Degree program in a relevant discipline. An Honours Degree shall consist of a further year of full-time study which will have a predominant research focus comprising at least 40% of the course content pertaining to a research project and thesis. Honours degrees will be graded as follows: First Class Honours Second Class Honours, Division A Second Class Honours, Division B Third Class Honours Fail Students completing four-year equivalent Bachelors Degrees may be awarded the Degree with Honours. Except where otherwise identified in the specific University accreditation of particular programs, students wishing to qualify for the award of a degree with Honours will have been identified for their meritorious performance no later than the end of the third year and will be required, in the fourth year, to undertake a more demanding program of study comprising a project which is predominantly research-based and approved by the relevant Faculty Research Committee. Degrees with Honours will be graded as follows: First Class Honours Second Class Honours, Division A Second Class Honours, Division B

COMPLIANCE & MONITORING

The Pro Vice-Chancellors (Faculty) are responsible for ensuring compliance with these principles. Monitoring will occur through exception reporting.
