Business and Employment Changes Announced in the News Media December 2007

1. In December 2007, it was
revealed that an Armed Forces Reserve Center will be built in Middletown that will employ 150 people full time when it is completed in 2009. Lowe’s will build a home improvement warehouse store in Derby employing 120 people when it opens in the fall of 2008.

2. In December 2007, the
Home Fabric Mills store building in Cheshire was sold resulting in the closing of the store in the spring of 2008. Thirteen workers are expected to lose their jobs as a result.

3. DEPARTMENT NEWS
The 2008 Connecticut Department of Labor Jobs Fairs are scheduled to begin on Tuesday January 29th with the Heroes4Hire Career Fair at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, followed by the College Career Expo in March. In April, Manchester Community College will be the host of its annual Job Fair. In May and June, Job Fairs will be held in eastern Connecticut and Fairfield County.
