Brochure
Description Objectives
This is a brochure that I designed for Tesla Motors. - Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.

- Create an original company logo and use it in a brochure. - Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

- Write at least 250 words of original copy with at least three paragraphs.

Program / Tools
- Adobe InDesign - Adobe Photoshop - Adobe Illustrator

Process

I started this brochure by picking out the images I wanted to use and the text I wanted to add to it. I created a logo based off of the Tesla logo to use with the brochure too. The next step was the hardest. I started the brochure with my fold line on the left side in landscape orientation. I couldn’t figure out how to layout all the images and text so I changed to portrait with the fold line at the top. Everything else just fell into place after that.

Montage
Description Objectives
- Learn to blend images together smoothly, using layer masks. - Apply appropriate typography. - Unifying a piece with a consistent theme This is a montage of good old Uncle Si and his words of profound wisdom. I had a lot of fun with this one.

Program / Tools
- Adobe Photoshop

Process

I started out with the sandwich first and put the beaver on top of that layer. I used a layer mask to blend out the background from the beaver image. I then added the same sandwich on top of the beaver layer and used a layer mask to reveal only part of the beaver so it would look like a furry beaver patty. Then I added Uncle Si’s picture and at that point I didn’t know what to use as a background. I found the asphalt image and it tied the whole thing together. I put a layer mask on Uncle Si and gradually blended him into the asphalt background.

Because the whole scenario screams road kill, I decided to make the text look like the spray paint they use for traffic lines. To do that, I used the Vivid Light blending mode on the BLT text. Then I decided to use the Difference blending mode on the whole wheat bread line so it looked like the texture of bread. To finish it off I added a levels adjustment layer to add some subtle contrast to the image.

Website
Description Objectives
- Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. - Design a web page using HTML and CSS to display the logo and content. - Identify hex colors for web design. - Compress multiple files in a zipped folder to attach as one file. - Size (300 – 500 pixels ) and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page. A webpage to feature a logo I made a couple weeks ago.

Program / Tools
- Espresso Text Editor

Process

To make this webpage I created a basic structure for my HTML page and created a CSS document for the styling. I originally had the logo aligned to the left and it didn’t look right so I moved it to the right side and it looked better with the text. I used font-face in my CSS for my fonts so I wouldn’t be limited to web safe fonts. I picked the colors from my logo in Photoshop and add them to the CSS to match the look of the logo.

Logos
Description Objectives
- Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. - Getting feedback from outside sources. Ask ten people to select their favorite logo. List the results, along with your favorite, in your blog post. - Use only the tools of Illustrator. I chose to make my three logos for a new snowboarding website that I’ve started in another class.

Program / Tools
- Adobe Illustrator CS6

Process

I think the hardest part of the process was coming up with ideas for my logos. I really had to stretch my creative power to come up with these ideas. Once that was decided I was able to get started.

The first logo was done with an image of a real snowboard. I traced the top half and reflected a copy to make a full snowboard and added some text on top of it.

The second logo was done completely with the rectangle tool and the path finder tool to subtract parts from the logo. I also used the rectangle tool and the pathfinder tool to create the mountains and added the snowboard graphic to it for the third logo.

Business Card
Description Objectives
- Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. - Learning to keep thing simple by having watermarks and drop shadows light and white space. - Design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. I created this personal stationery to be able to get my name out there. The QR code connects to my LinkedIn profile.

Program / Tools
- Adobe Illustrator CS6 - Adobe InDesign CS6 - Adobe Photoshop CS6

Process

I started off with the logo which I made with the pen tool. It took a while to get the proportions right, but it paid off. Then I used simple gradients for the backgrounds of my business card and letterhead. The hardest part of this project was alignment and layout in such a small space.

For those who are curious, I made the QR code on my phone with an app and exported it to my computer. I edited it in Photoshop to take off the white background and then imported it to my business card. I did some reading about QR codes and it turns out they can have logos or text in the middle of the code and still work. After reading that, I decided to put my logo in the middle of the code to save on space and fix alignment issues. I just used the clipping mask tool to get rid of some squares in the middle to make room for my logo.

Imaging
Description Objectives
- Learn basic photography skills. - Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. - Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue and saturation levels. - Use a selection tool to isolate a portion of the image. - Desaturate the selected portion of the image. - Use a filter or colorize a portion of the image. I took this image and edited in Photoshop using filters and Hue/Saturation tools.

Program / Tools
- Adobe Photoshop CS6

Process
I took this photo with my iPhone 5s. I know it’ s not a “real” camera, but time constraints prevented me from renting a better one for this assignment. I then imported it into Photoshop and cropped it to a square size and started editing. I selected the car with the Quick Selection tool and had to do some adjustments with the Magnetic Lasso tool. I desaturated the background and added the Dark Strokes filter. I decided to add the Poster Edges filter to the car to blend in the effects.

- Find, scan and import a high-quality image. - Create a full-bleed design - Use text boxes for layout in Word. - Insert and edit images in Word. We were assigned to create a fundraiser ad on Microsoft Word using a scanned image.

Program / Tools
- Microsoft Word - Canon Scanner

Process
I scanned the image of the colosseum first and downloaded the grunge background from the internet. I removed the background from the colosseum and adjusted the transparency on both the images until they blended well. I tried to wrap the text around the colosseum.

Flier
Description Objectives
- Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography. - Retrieve image and logo from links on this page. - Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout. - Create a project folder with image and InDesign document to keep links intact. This is a black and white flier for a graduate leadership conference.

Program / Tools
- Adobe InDesign CS6

Process
I started out learning some of the basics of InDesign. I made four preliminary sketches to get an idea of the layout I wanted to implement in my flier. Once I had made my decision on the layout, I tried to create it in InDesign. After I had placed the image and the title, I decided to add repetition to my flier by repeating the title block for the headings and the footer at the bottom.
