DIAMOND

Recent developments involving the use of diamond in prosthetics, sensing, imaging, and drug delivery
promise significant improvements in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions over the coming
years.
Since critical angle is small, much of the light undergoes T.I.R.
OPTICAL FIBERS

BINACULAR

An optical fiber (or optical
fibre)
is
a
flexible,
transparent fiber made of
high quality extruded glass
(silica) or plastic, slightly
thicker than a human hair. It
can function as a waveguide,
or “light pipe”, to transmit
light between the two ends of
the
fiber. Power
over
Fiber (PoF) optic cables can
also work to deliver an
electric current for lowpower electric devices. The
field
of applied
n is large so light undergoes total internal reflection
science and engineering conc
erned with the design and
application of optical fibers is
known as fiber optics.

High quality prism absorbs less light than a mirror.

LIGHT SCATTERING FROM SINGLE BIOLOGICAL CELLS (FDTD)
Biological cells can be considered as dielectric objects with a given refractive index distribution. Light
scattering simulations provide us with an efficient tool for studying cell morphology as well as the nature of
scattering and its sources. The analysis of this information is the basis for a better understanding and
development of new optical methods for non-invasive biomedical diagnostics.

Refractive index (left) and electric near field amplitude (right) distribution around one of the cells in a
vertically oriented infinite row of periodically positioned circular cells with a period of 24 μm. The radii of
the cell and of the nucleus are 8 μm and 4 um, respectively. Blue and red colors (right) correspond to min
and max values of the electric field amplitude.

TECHPOLYMER is used as a light diffusion material in light covers.
Compared to conventional inorganic diffusing agents used in translucent or milky white molded resin
products, Techpolymer can reduce transmitted light loss (it diffuses light more brightly).

Total light transmission (the larger the value, the greater the light transmitted by the material) and degrees of
dispersion (the larger the value, the greater the light diffused by the material). Compared to products
containing inorganic particles, diffuser panels containing Techpolymer show better optical properties.
