Diana, Princess of Wales, was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, who is the eldest
child and heir apparent of Queen Elizabeth II. Diana was born into an aristocratic English
family with royal ancestry.She became a public figure with the announcement of her
engagement.
Twenty-year-old Diana became Princess of Wales when she married the Prince of Wales on
29 July 1981 at St Paul's Cathedral, which offered more seating than Westminster Abbey,
generally used for royal nuptials. It was widely billed as a "fairytale wedding", watched by
a global television audience of 750 million.
While married she bore the titles Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall among others.
She did a lot of charity works, visiting terminally ill people over the world, leading
campaigns for animal protection, AIDS awareness. She was called by people

During the early 1990s, the marriage of the Prince and Princess of Wales fell apart wich led
to their divorce. The divorce was finalised in 1996. Even after the divorce she remained in
the media’s attention.
On 1997, Princess Diana was fatally injured in a car crash in a road tunnel in Paris. The
sudden and unexpected death of an extraordinarily popular royal figure brought
statements from senior figures worldwide and many tributes by members of the public.
People left public offerings of flowers, candles, cards and personal messages outside
Kensington Palace for many months.
She won the sympathy and affection of millions and even today, many people refer to her
as the queen of people’s hearts.
At her funeral Elton John made a performance of his song Candle in the Wind, done as a
tribute to Diana wich became globally famous.Some of the lyrics are:
“Goodbye England's rose
May you ever grow in our hearts
You were the grace that placed itself
Where lives were torn apart
You called out to our country
And you whispered to those in pain
Now you belong to heaven
And the stars spell out your name”
