Community Resource Sites

Goal: Distribute basic need items, information and referrals to victims of disaster. Sites will be located in the respective Diocese in which it serves and be easily accessible to disaster victims. This is a partnership between non profits to efficiently serve the needs of victims in a quick response. A community disaster assessment will be performed to determine the number of sites needed and the placement of sites. Items to be distributed may include but is not limited to the following: food, water, personal hygiene and clean up kits. Organizations that may be involved in the distribution center are: The American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Feed the Children, Church World Service, and local food banks. Requirements:  Warehouse  At least two Catholic Charities staff persons per site  40-50 volunteers /day/site  2 canopies  4 folding tables  Lunch for volunteers or have them bring lunch  Once sites are determined, contact local authority to assist with crowd control/traffic patterns. It is best to stay off of main thorough fares.  At least 3 security guards/site  Provide volunteers with Catholic Charities shirts for high visibility  Forklift and pallet jack at each site and warehouse  Grocery Bags or boxes to distribute supplies to victims  Simple intake form  6 clip boards/site  Pens/pencils  Hand Sanitizer  Sunscreen/bug spray  Site will require a space to store items left at the end of day  Mega phone or speaker to speak to the crowd  Large garbage cans for trash  Bull horn  Parking cones (6-8)

Instructions: 1. Once site is established and hours are determined create a memo and notify 211, VOAD, churches, media, etc. 2. A point person is needed to go between distribution centers and site supervisors 3. Seek volunteers from various organizations and church groups:  Churches/Matthew 25 teams  Knights of Columbus  Post a need on Aid Matrix  CC agency  Request through the media 4. All volunteers must sign a liability waiver 5. Have intake workers begin further down the line of cars, they will assess what a family needs and put an inventory sheet on the car 6. Have inventory lined up down a line with volunteers along the way so that as the car drives by it is filled with what the family needs. 7. If a medical need arises (fainting, pregnancy, etc.) call 911. 8. Pre-visit your site to determine how to structure flow of cars, unloading trucks. Attempt to have these separate from each other. 9. Plan ahead for walkers to utilize the site. It may be helpful to have volunteers set up to handle them.
