‡ In 2008, 11,773 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third (32%) of all trafficrelated deaths in the United States. ‡ An average of one alcohol-impaired-driving fatality occurs every 45 minutes in the United States(Traffic Safety Facts).

In 2007: ‡ 26,928 arrested in North Carolina for drunk driving / DUI ‡ 497 people were killed in North Carolina in accidents where at least one driver had a BAC of 0.8% or above 592 total deaths caused in North Carolina where at least one driver had a BAC of 0.01% or above (North Carolina Drunk Driving).


‡ Reducing the legal BAC limit to 0.05 ‡ Promptly revoking the driver's licenses of people who drive while intoxicated. ‡ Requiring mandatory substance abuse assessment and treatment for DWI offenders.

BAC- is the Blood Alcohol Content/concentration ‡ The BAC has been lowered in 65 countries ‡ Research has shown you become impaired even with low BAC levels ‡ In 2009, Quebec considered lowering the BAC ‡ A Centre for Addiction and Mental Health study concludes as many as 555 deaths a year would be avoided in Canada if the criminal BAC was lowered to .05.
