Gail Drury, CMKBD,
President and Studio Director

27 Years. Four Locations.
Thousands of Client Home
Design Projects.
When Drury Design outgrew a
compact storefront in downtown
Glen Ellyn, we opened our studio
on Main Street. All along the
way, we’ve been honored with
opportunities to design rooms in
homes in the western suburbs,
Chicago, the Midwest, and even
internationally.
While the past few years have
been up and down for everyone,
the future forecast for home
remodeling is bright. According to
a new study from Harvard’s Joint
Center for Housing, spending
for home improvement projects
nationwide is expected to reach
$153.8 billion in the third quarter
this year, up 9.9 percent from the
$139.9 billion recorded in 2013’s
corresponding period.
As we enter our 28th year in
business, we’d like to thank
our clients, our team, and the
community for being our partners.
And, we’d like to invite you to
become a Drury Design client.
What projects do you have in
mind?
S CHAUMBURG, I L , TOWNHOME RE MODE L
Contemporary Townhome Kitchen Wins
Chrysalis Team Award
The challenge: transform a tiny townhouse
kitchen into a contemporary and functional family
headquarters.
The result: a 2014 Regional Chrysalis Team Award
for team leader Chris Donatelli, founder and
president of Donatelli Builders in Wayne, Gail
Drury, CMKBD and president of Drury Design
in Glen Ellyn and Vicki Ovitt, an interior designer
based in Wheaton.
One room of a complete townhouse renovation,
the finished kitchen is a great example of how an
award-winning team can collaborate together.
The purpose of the remodel was to transform
a very small kitchen into the functional hub of
a 2,500-square-foot townhouse. Although the
space was sizable, like many townhouse units, the
original builder’s plans did not capitalize on the
townhouse’s full potential.
Both avid cooks, the couple wanted to create a
fully functional space for their young, active family
and their guests. To maximize the townhouse’s
livability and fulfill the client’s wish list, design
plans called for improving the kitchen design
layout, upgrading appliances, and creating a
distinctive eating area with a built-in granite table.
Congrats go out to Janice Teague,
CKD, CBD, on designing one of Trends
Magazine’s TOP 50 AMERICAN
KITCHENS 2013-14 – our second Top 50
award in as many years.
Designed for a professional chef and her
family, this fresh, transitional kitchen took
first place in NKBA Chicago’s 2013 Midwest
Design Visions contest. The double award-
winning kitchen serves multiple purposes,
including hosting intimate cooking classes,
as well as large groups of people. Janice was
challenged to design the space to include
large counter work surfaces, a student
observation center and room for additional
appliances – all in a way that feels like a
home, not a commercial kitchen. Trends
Top 50 US projects are chosen on the basis
of excellence in design, function, product
specification and style.

Design a Top 50 Award,
the Second in Two Years
Kelly Stewart, CMKBD, Drury Design’s newest designer, has designed kitchens
in historic homes dating back to the 17th century, in iconic buildings like Willis
Tower, Watergate and Chicago’s Merchandise Mart, and in homes by famous
architects like David Adler, Stamford White, and Mies Van Der Rohe.
If you’ve seen Lidia Bastianich’s cooking show, “Lidia’s Italy” on PBS, you’ve
seen one of Kelly’s kitchens.
Son of the legendary Leslie Stewart, CKD, whose kitchen design client list included Alfred Hitchcock
and Marilyn Monroe, Kelly is creating a legacy of his own.
Gail Drury, CMKBD and president of Drury Design said, “Having worked with Kelly in the early
stage of our careers, I’ve been impressed by his creative portfolio over the years. We are delighted to
welcome such a talented design colleague to our team – and back to the Chicago area.”
About his return to the Chicago area, Kelly says, “I’ve always enjoyed the greater Chicago area
for progressive architecture and interior design. After living in Connecticut for 26 years, it’s very
freeing to get back to an area of the country that is one of those geographic areas where you’re doing
leading-edge design. Many areas of the country are design followers. Chicago is a design leader.”

NOT SO TRADITIONAL
WHITE KITCHEN
Location: St. Charles
Designer: Diana Burton
The art lies in the details.
Beaded inset cabinetry, a lovely
arched valance, contrasting
finishes, and a striking custom
metal hood create a unique
take on the traditional white
kitchen. Painted maple
perimeter cabinets and a rich
dark cherry island create
contrast and drama.
REC ROOM REIMAGINED
BASEMENT REMODEL
Location: Glen Ellyn
Designer: Gail Drury, CMKBD
and Jason Wickline
What once started as a
2,000-square-foot open and
unfinished space quickly turned
into a contemporary lodge
oasis, complete with a bar, an
entertaining area, a game room, a
music room, a storage center, and
a full bathroom. The goal was to
create a rustic and contemporary
basement through the use of
natural tones and materials,
along with clean and sleek lines.

CLASSIC CHICAGO
ELEGANCE – CONDO
REMODEL
Location: Chicago
Designer: Gail Drury, CMKBD
In the heart of the ‘Windy
City,’ this classic Chicago
Condo overlooks the historic
Navy Pier Ferris Wheel, the
Shedd Aquarium, and the
Field Museum. Continuing the
vintage elegance of Chicago,
this kitchen was designed with
a traditional style that makes
any breakfast, lunch or dinner
a delight to prepare. White
cabinetry with a touch of
custom gray brings this kitchen
to an all new height.
