Environmental Effects of the Internet
In terms of E-commerce The internet had a big impact in e-commerce nowadays, wherein it improves the production of goods and services. It would make the transactions easier, faster, and reliable. In terms of its environmental effect in e-commerce there will be an increase in the demand for packaging the materials and large amount of consumption in energy. One of the facts about the e-commerce is that, there will be a large demand for businesses openings but limited jobs or job openings. E-commerce is can be a form of a networking because it is online. And there will come a time that human labor will not be necessary because of the advanced technology, and it is very much beneficial to us, for we will not be tired of working. But it has also a bad impact for us wherein there are plenty of harmful side effects on our health once we are online or using the computer for a long period of time. On part of us, as a consumer, the other benefit of it to us is that, we can save gas or fuel because we will not have to pick-up our orders direct to the company because it is the company who will deliver our orders to us. These are the facts about the e-commerce. 1Some companies are using the Internet to make direct connections with their customers. Others are using secure Internet connections to intensify relations with some of their trading partners, and using the Internet’s reach an ubiquity to request quotes or sell off perishable stocks of goods or services by auction. Entirely new companies and business models are emerging in industries ranging from chemicals to road haulage to bring together buyers and sellers in super-efficient new electronic marketplaces. E-commerce means “electronic commerce”, wherein it is the sale of products and services over the Internet. 2It is the fastest growing segment of our economy. It allows even the smallest business to reach a global audience with its product or message with minimal cost. The sale of products or services on your website can generate sales that will make the difference between success and failure. Even Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the world with one billion dollars sales per day, could not anticipate the increasing wave of Internet business. On the morning of November 24, 2006, their website broke down because it could not handle the volume of Internet orders.

In 2005 there were approximately 1.08 billion people worldwide who used the internet at least once a month. This is projected to grow to 1.8 billion in 2010. The online population has hit 73% of all U.S. adults. The average income of Internet households is over $66,790, making the Internet user a very attractive customer for you to target

Consumers also obtain better and more complete information by shopping on the web. For instance, pertinent information when buying a car (such as the make and model, performance, accessories, financing and insurance options) are now made available through websites of car dealers, thus serving as a one stop- shop for consumers to lessen the time and ease their decision making. Some internet retailers offer discounts despite the infancy stage of ecommerce. One reason for this could be the decline in the firms’ cost structure when selling over the web. Another source of price discounts is the stiff price competition on the internet because of the transparency brought by search engines and shopping agents. According to the US Department of Commerce (1998) study, should retailing continue to grow in the internet, the nature of competition and favorable economics in the internet could translate into lower prices for the average consumer. Finally, e-commerce offers increased customization. Several businesses over the web, particularly the media businesses, already offer this to consumers. Based on the trends in the Philippines, it can be said that ecommerce is definitely here to stay. As the experiences of the US and Europe show, the effects of e-commerce are expected to be felt by all—firms, consumers, and workers. However, Filipinos are still in the dark as to how e-commerce will impact on their lives. There are no e-commerce studies centered on forecasting or estimating how e-commerce will affect businesses in the Philippines. Neither is there a Philippine framework that can analyze the possible effects of e-commerce on the economy. The OECD (1998a) notes that first and foremost, methodologies for measuring e-commerce, its growth and possible effects, need to be developed. Sector-specific impacts of disintermediation and reinter mediation were also suggested as key areas for future research. Since e-commerce is only starting in the Philippines, the formulation of different scenarios as to how e-commerce will affect consumer purchase would be key not only in measuring ecommerce but in analyzing its possible effects on several industries as well, especially with regard employment. Although statistics show the underdeveloped stage of e-commerce infrastructure in the Philippines, the pace of e-commerce adoption by Filipinos still seems unclear. Different scenarios would therefore be helpful in describing the different ways e-commerce may be used and adopted in the future. From here, one can then gain insights on its possible ranges of effects on various industries in particular, and the whole economy in general.

Therefore as a student, we should be environmentally aware of what is happening around us especially in terms of environmental issues. We should take some actions with regards to that matter. Before we engage to that kind of online services or e-commerce we should be resourceful if it provides a good kind of service so that we would not be fooled or be a victim of fraud. And if we would be having online-businesses, we should always take some considerations, like we should have the resources or materials; we should be financially capable and could monitor all the transactions at all time.
