February 11, 2009 – American Reinvestment and Recovery Act signed into law December 30, 2009 – EHR Incentive NPRM displayed to the public
2010
January 13, 2010 – EHR Incentive NPRM published March 15, 2010 – NPRM comment period closes at 5:00pm EST Spring 2010 – Final Rule published October 2010 – Earliest date that Medicare is able to start paying eligible hospitals and CAH’s Fall 2010 – Earliest date that Medicaid EPs can potentially start receiving payments for A/I/U
2011
January 2011 – Earliest date that Medicare is able to start paying incentives to EPs 2011 – Meaningful use Stage 1 objectives will be in effect 2011 - EPs required to submit a summary of clinical quality measures to CMS/States by attestation
2012
2012 – EPs required to submit clinical quality measures to CMS/States electronically 2012-2014 – EPs are allowed to change their program selection once during this payment period
2013
2013 – Meaningful use Stage 2 objectives will potentially be in effect
2014
2014- Last year EP is able to initiate Medicare EHR incentive program
2015
2015 & later – if not a “meaningful EHR user” EPs will start to receive a 3% payment adjustment in Medicare reimbursement 2015 – Meaningful use Stage 3 objectives will potentially be in effect
2016
2016 – Last payment year in Medicare EHR incentive program 2016- Last year EP is able to initiate Medicaid EHR incentive program
2021
2021 – Last payment year in Medicaid EHR incentive program
