EMERGENCY HANDLING REPORT
06th Feb 2003. Unit: Date: Load: Mills in service: BFPs in service: Shift Generation: #VI 05th Feb 2003 500 MW A,B,C,E,F,G A,B 3.900 MUs
At 12:55 DM normal makeup shot up to 100 T/hr in recorder, DAS & Integrator. DM makeup control valve was in full closed condition. Unit load and all other desk parameters were normal, Shift C&I was asked to find out the healthiness of signal. Mean while Boiler round was taken and found normal. Turbine side locally it was found that the DM water line for CEP gland sealing has come out from hotwell makeup line & DM water was falling down and splashing over vacuum pump #1 separator tank. Immediately informed to TM and following actions were taken. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ Vacuum pump changed over from 1 to 2. Normal makeup was fully isolated. CT pump of U #6 started & asked to start U #4 CT pump. Emergency makeup line normalized & charged, but no water was coming to the hotwell. So to maintain the hotwell level load was reduced by 20 MW. Still hotwell level was dropping gradually. Some makeup was taken in to the system by charging aux. steam to dearator (pegging steam). ♦ After temporarily attending the leakage by TM normal makeup line was charged and makeup taken into the hotwell and deaerator and system was isolated for attending the leakage. Correct diagnosis of problem and prompt action by our team avoided Unit outage. Following executives were involved in handling this emergency successfully. ♦ ♦ ♦ ♦ VIJAY TANWANI CH.
