Electronic Systems

The Warwick Engineering MSc programmes are one-year, researchled specialised courses suitable as preparation for a technical career in industry or for progression to a research degree.

The aims of the Electronic Systems degree are: to impart state-of-theart knowledge and understanding of Electronics at postgraduate level; to deliver advanced modules informed by the active research expertise of the academic staff; to prepare students for careers in advanced technology; to provide a study environment that fosters stimulation and permits students to advance their knowledge and skills.
• Microsensors & Microsystems Technology • Power Electronics • Synthetic Intelligence and Intelligent Software Design • Ultrasonic & Biomedical Instrumentation • Internet-enabled Engineering Instrumentation & Measurement • Wireless Communications • Optical Communication Systems • Optical Engineering and Image Processing • Remote Sensing and Data Processing • Micromechanics, Precision Design and Analysis

This programme in Electronic Systems includes: advanced instrumentation skills with a focus on silicon micro-machined sensors and actuators; the application of the MATLAB package to advanced problems in signal processing; the operation of ultrasonic and optical transducers in the context of sensing applications; new technologies in fields such as medical technology; the operation and future direction of electronic systems; the performance of sensing systems and their current trends.

• Computational Mathematics for Engineers

Project
Half the course credit comprises a substantial project appropriate to the course of study. This entails an in-depth experimental, theoretical or computational investigation of a topic chosen by the student in conjunction with an academic supervisor. MSc Electronic Systems

Minimum Entry Requirements
Academic Second class honours degree (or equivalent) in an Engineering related subject from a good university. English Language IELTS 6.5; TOEFL (paper based) 600; TOEFL (computer based) 250. Pre-sessional language courses are available for applicants who narrowly miss these requirements. In addition, language training is available in the university free of charge for the duration of the course.

Course Duration Assessment

Twelve months full-time.

Modules use a variety of methods to assess performance including assignments, design exercises, practical work, tests and mini-projects. The project is assessed by a dissertation and an oral examination.

Outcomes

Passing the taught modules and the project at MSc level (50%) leads to the award of the MSc. Achieving 70% or more in both the taught element and the project leads to the award of an MSc with Distinction. A PgDip and PgCert can also be awarded.
