Emails sent to WTTW regarding their exclusionary debate policy, and asking them to take the road less traveled, and to include Green Party candidates in their debates. The production staff at WTTW insisted upon an exclusionary, selective promotion approach - promoting establishment candidates, rather than including all "established party" candidates, despite overwhelming public support.

Senate ,...

Hello yet again, Time flies during election season, and yet, WTTW and the City Club plod along their course of exclusion and censorship. I still have hope that each of you, for a moment or two, might remove your personal partisan-affiliation hats, remember your journalist training, and put the viewers of public televsion, the voters of Illinois, and the integrity of the election process first. Rather than partake in a partisan policy of exclusion that promotes retention of power and control by a select few, please consider the road less traveled, the high ground, of trusting voters with knowledge, helping the voters become fully informed, educated and active participants in the election process. Anything less would be lending support to Illinois' reputation of political corruption that has become the state's hallmark - and the reason for growing voter discontent and apathy. Please see Rich Miller's Op/Ed in today's Sun-Times (attached) about the lackluster performances by the usual suspects on the debate circuit, which lacks Green Party representation. http://www.suntimes.com/news/miller/2824136,CST-EDT-miller22.article# Is this really the level of journalism that WTTW seeks to promote? I challenge you to make history, and lead the state out of its bipartisan wrought debacle, and include Green Party candidates in your debates. Include Rich Whitney, LeAlan Jones, Tom Tresser and others that are in races where debates are yet to be scheduled. Thank you. Re: Open the debates - include Rich Whitney, LeAlan Jones - Yahoo! Mail
Please try this hypothetical exercise: (1) take off your political affiliation hats for a moment, (2) listen to your conscience as non-partisan civic leaders and (3) include Rich Whitney and LeAlan Jones in all debates and forum. It's the right thing to do for voters, for viewers, for your organizations' credibility going forward. The below-linked article at HuffPost is being sent to the League of Women Voters, Union League Club, WTTW and City Club of Chicago, who are all conspiring to keep the Green Party out of debates. From the outside, it looks like otherwise well-intentioned organizations' are tarnishing their reputations unnecessarily. Momentum is growing, some would say snowballing, to tear down the wall, the glass ceiling, that has thus far kept Green Party candidates hidden and away from public attention. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-biggers/perpetrate-a-fraud-361000_b_760694.html From an outsider's perspective, it sure looks like these tax-exempt organizations and their favored/supported Democrat candidates are afraid of letting the people hear from Green Party candidates, LeAlan Jones and Rich Whitney, because (a) they don't trust voters to think or vote on their own, and (b) their candidates would be embarrassed because they created the current problems and unable to credibly respond to "unscripted" topics. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-biggers/perpetrate-a-fraud-361000_b_760694.html Mayor Daley has actually stepped down, bi-partisanship has been exposed as the corporate-sponsored sham that it really is, and 60% of voters are fed up with the usual suspects from the usual parties. These are certainly exciting and uncharted political times we live in. Did you read the article at NBC-5 Ward Room blog (attached) captioned "In Kirk and Giannoulias Debate - Jones is the Winner" after the horrendous Kirk-Giannoulias Meet the Press debate? On the side margin, there's a tally of what people thought of that article - and 46% were "thrilled" and 23% were "intrigued." Says a lot about Kirk and Giannoulias, and a lot more about LeAlan Jones. Please, do the right thing - include Rich Whitney and LeAlan Jones in the debates next week. I look forward to your confirmation by Friday, 10/15/2010. Thank you. Andy Finko --Andrew Finko Attorney at Law PO Box 2249 Chicago, IL 60690-2249 Tel (773) 480-0616 Fax (773) 453-3266
