For the past two weeks, people all around the
world have promoted and celebrated fair trade
fortnight. Fair Trade is a term used to describe
ethical consumerism. When we buy an item of
food, clothing, technology and more, oen our rst
thought is 'man, that was expensive' or !man, that
was a bargain!! What we don!t oen consider,
however, is the cost to those who made the
product we buy.

"verseas, children and adults alike, are responsible for the crea#on of
many of our lu$ury products. %nd many, work in unsafe, underpaid, and
unfair environments. % &' chocolate bar, an &() pair of *eans, a &+) toy,
a &,)) phone, a &-) pair of sneakers.... all made by men, women and in
some cases children. .ong hours, li/le breaks, barely any pay.

0ut wait! There!s hope! %nd a chance for you to make a di1erence!
When you purchase a product that is fair trade or produced ethically, you
ensure that the lu$uries you buy do not stop someone else from having
their basic necessi#es. When you buy fair trade, you support a community
to live. Fair Trade means a product is traded fairly. Those who are
involved in making the products we buy every day are paid a fair wage for
their work. That &' chocolate bar, those &() *eans and more, all made
by men and women who have worked with breaks, in safe condi#ons, for
a fair price.

2 encourage you to learn more about fair trade or ethically produced
