fade to an autumn orange, prospective student tours at Adelphi University continue with fervor. What always proves to be difficult each time Adelphi renovates or adds a new feature to the blossoming campus is familiarizing the guides with information of these additions. Here are a few things to highlight on tours from now on. The University Center Cafeteria was completely remodeled in the summer of 2010, instituting more spacious dining areas, a larger variety of food choices, and a more effective service system. Chee Burger Chee Burger Express, precisely serves that which its name indicates, is the first on a college campus in the northeast. This is a big draw factor for incoming students. Additionally, all of the much loved staples of the UC returned in more expanded quantities. Also along the theme of food services, Post Hall Dining has replaced Sbarros with Nikos, a Greek and Mediterranean style eatery. The choices at Nikos are healthier, and apply to a wider cultural taste. Although the field has existed since 2008, Competition Field was renamed for Thomas Motamed in July 2010. Thomas Motamed graduated from Adelphi in 1971, and since his graduation he has been quite active in alumni activities. Since 2005, he has served on the Board of Trustees for Adelphi, and the field was named for him due to his extraordinary support and service to the university. Consequently he is also a member of the Million Dollar Roundtable, a new installment recognizing financial donors of Adelphi, locating the lobby of the Performing Arts Center. Last, the newest addition to Adelphi’s campus is the Trade Room, found in Hagedorn Hall. This room was completed in October, and will facilitate practical application of financial concepts through a real scrolling stock market and Bloomsberg Professional Stations. These constant improvements to our university are something worth bragging about on Adelphi campus tours, and will certainly attract the attention for students.

IMPRESSIONISM, SYMBOLISM, AND FUTURISM
A Note on Professionalism

sity. You are a symbol of what Adelphi looks for in students. You are the people prospective students imagine their college friends to be like; they are the future at Adelphi. Due to the high standards that have been set for you as tour guides, first impressions are key. You have to be ready to be who you mean to be within a few seconds of stepping into the office. With that, the following are a few reminders of common office practices and courtesy. Consider your attire prior to arriving at the office. Dress should be neat and appropriate, i.e. casual. Sweatpants, pajamas, and excessively revealing clothing are not conducive to a work environment.

Senior Assistant Director, Eric Brodsky, provides a simple rule of thumb, “Would you wear it to a place of worship or when speaking directly with Doctor Scott?” Prior to scheduled tour times, families are often waiting in the lobby. Try to go out of your way and mingle with the families. It is imperative to make them feel welcome, even through a little bit of small talk. Be sure to illustrate your enthusiasm about Adelphi. “Always look for accepted students in a tour slot,” says Eric Brodsky, “Make them feel important by creating a specialized tour geared towards their intended major. This shows how much Adelphi cares about each individual student.”

GUIDING LIGHTS
Ambassador Program 2010 tant Director Eric Brodsky introduced a new program entitled Tour Guide Ambassador. This program was introduced for the fall of 2010 and currently eight tour guides hole the position. Alyssa DiGregorio, Lauren Leggio, Katie Wiess, Shannon Vlack, Pedro Hipolito, Octavia James, Leslie Mejia, and Emily Dernbach had to go through an interview and evaluation process before being promoted to this position. between the tour guides and the admissions counselors; they often work to advocate the questions and needs to those in authority. The program is also a way to show initiative in the office after several years of working. One stipulation of the program is that applicants must be juniors or seniors, and possess extensive knowledge of even the most inner workings of Adelphi University. Congratulations and thank you for all your hard work!
