Engine Performance - Test - Engine Speed
SMCS - 1000-081

Note: Use the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) or a Multitach in order to monitor engine speed. Table 1 Required Tools (Multitach) Part Number 9U-7400 Description Multitach Tool Gp Required Tools (Cat ET) 275-5120 Communication Adapter As 1 Qty 1

1. Position the machine on level ground. 2. Stop the engine. 3. Install 9U-7400 Multitach Tool Group on the engine or install Cat ET to the service connector behind the cab. 4. Start the engine. 5. Place the hydraulic activation control lever in the UNLOCKED position. 6. Increase the hydraulic oil temperature to 55° ± 5°C (131° ± 9°F). 7. Read the engine speed display (rpm) on the multitach or read the engine speed on the laptop computer by using Cat ET. Refer to Table 2 for the specifications for engine speed at the desired engine operation. Table 2

Note: A New specification is the performance that can be expected for a newmachine. A Rebuild specification is the performance that can be expected afterthe components of a system are rebuilt. Performance beyond the Service Limit is an indication of these problems: improper maintenance or adjustment, component wear and failure.
