This issue of the Era Business School (EBS) Newsletter is
presented in its new avatar – EBS Mocktails. And please,
please, please do not get us wrong. This mocktail is a
happy blend of all that goes into making news at the
vibrant EBS. The title courtesy and design can however
be ‘blamed’ to Vipul Badyal, the young man from
Jammu, who has joined us this year. We, the others in
the new team Mocktails are Kedar Pradhan, Rupali
Lamba, Sagrika Singhal, Surbhi Rajput.
Well, we are aware that there has been a l-o-n-g-gap
between the last edition of the newsletter and this. We
assure you that we shall be more regular in churning out
the EBS Mocktails.
With this issue we go digital – no more the physical
format… And that is our small contribution to saving the
trees!

We are trying out a new format too. We have different
sections such as Idhar Udhar (Campus News), Aao
Jaane (Something we can add to our knowledge bank),
Thoda Sochiye (Pause and reflect), about our Tasveerein
Bolti Hai (just some candid pictures),Hasna Mana hai
(the smile section), and Chillar Party (Miscellaneous,
whenever we have such masala).
To make Mocktails something to eagerly wait for, we
look forward to inputs, suggestions, pats and brickbats
from each and every one associated with EBS. And this
definitely includes the EBS alumni. Surely the alumni can
inform us about happenings in their professional and
personal lives. We would be happy to know who is
working where , who is moving from one job to another,
professional awards and achievements, and also about
our alumni getting married, being blessed with kids etc.

Please do mail your news stories to us at
[email protected]
Looking forward to hearing from you! Cheers to
Mocktails!

Team Mocktails

Idhar Udhar
In this section we cover the happenings at EBS in
the first trimester of the academic session 201415. It however does include a word about Mini
MBA and the convocation of Batch 2012-14, which
were conducted just before this trimester
commenced.
Mini MBA is a unique concept which was
introduced by EBS, perhaps for the first time
anywhere in the world for teenagers – primarily
school student who are of the age group 13 to 19
years. This programme exposed 38 participants to
select aspects of management and in the process
also enhanced not just their knowledge of the
corporate world but also honed their analytical
skills and vastly developed their personality. It was
conducted from 19 May to 28 June 2014. The
convocation ceremony was presided over by Prof
(Dr) Sudhanshu Bhushan, Vice Chancellor of Shri
Venkateswara College.
The PGDM convocation ceremony of the Batch
2012-14 was held on 26 July 2014. Dr. H
Chaturvedi, Director, Birla Institute of
Management Technology was the Chief Guest at
the ceremony. In his speech, he motivated the
young leaders to chase their dreams with
tenacity. He also advised them to be ethical in
their professional pursuits. Col. Ajay Kumar Raina
was adjudged as the topper. Students of the
passing out batch have received placement offers
from some of the most reputed global and
national companies such as- Citibank, Nestle, HCL
Technologies, Xerox, Emaar MGF, ICICI Securities,
Videocon, Naukri.com, HT Media, Parle Agro, Axis
Bank, Indusind Bank, Standard Chartered, The
Bristol Hotel and many more.
We at EBS wish them all the best in their baby steps in
their new assignments!

Honours
Prof.(Dr) Sanjeev Marwah, Director EBS has been
honoured with the prestigious Rashtriya Gaurav Award
2014. He received this award in New Delhi on 17th
July,2014. We at EBS rejoice at his singularly
praiseworthy achievement.

Foundation Course
The foundation course for Batch 2014-16 commenced on 7th July, 2014. For the next three weeks, it was some grounding
in the basics of the subjects which follow in full steam in the PGDM programme. Not to forget the linguistics (recall Wren
& Martin?), drilled in the sing song manner by Ms Taruna Julka. And yes, the Freshers did learn some Grammer….oops,
apologies Taruna Maa’m, I meant Grammar.
Since some students decided to join up later than the early birds, the foundation course got extended a bit and this gave
them adequate time to know each other better. They now work as a well-oiled machinery.

Industrial Visit to Yakult
Yakult Danone India (P) Ltd is a 50:50 JV between Yakult
Honsha, Japan and Groupe Danone of France, both of
which are global probiotic leaders. EBS organised a trip
to Yakult on 28 August 2014.Yakult, a probiotic drink, is
manufactured at their manufacturing facility in Sonepat,
Haryana. This was the first industrial visit of the 2014-16
batch students. Prof Hemant Jain accompanied the

students. In the fun-filled three hour long bus journey to
Sonepat, it was Antakshri all the way!
At Yakult Danone India (P) Ltd we were conducted
around their production unit. We came back much wiser
from this trip as we were exposed to the concept of
probiotic drinks, the business plan, the challenges faced
and the production process. It was a day well spent.

Teacher’s Day
The teacher’s was celebrated with great enthusiasm on
5th September. And guess what…our mentors did beat us
even in some games such as the pool. While Dr Sanjiv
Marwah was at his ‘pool’ side best, Dr Sudhir Sakhuja
beat the EBS arm-wrestling champ Jhanvi Tripathi!!!

The sports and games session was followed by a cultural
programme in which even our mentors participated with
gusto. Lungi dance by Prof Subramnian, Salsa by Prof
Hemant Jain (accompanied by the versatile Deepali
Sherawat ) and a myriad of first rate performance by Dr
Ajay Mehta showcased their talents. Prof Supriya
Sehgal, Dr Manisha Vijayran, Ms Taruna Julka, and Ms
Neha and also all other staff members put on their
dancing shoes, so to say, on this very special day
delighted. The event was very ably anchored by Rishab
Taneja, Harmeet Singh, Akanksha Singh, Arshdeep
Tandon and Sakshi Jaiswal. We also discovered the
unmatchable artistic talent in Gaurav Joshi of the
fresher’s batch. All in all, it was a fun filled day when
even the mentors let their hair down.

Supporting a Cause
We at EBS continue to support social crusaders and NonGovernmental Organizations (NGOs). On 19 Sept 2014,
an event by Gift a Tree Network, a New Delhi based
NGO was sponsored and hosted by us at EBS. In this
event, the Network honoured ladies who have spread
the message of afforestation. Amongst those present
was H.E. Dr Janice Darbari, the Honorary Counsel
General of Montenegro, also the Patron of this cause.

Recognition
The Era Group in its annual day celebrated on 3
September, recognized the efforts of our Admin Officer
Mr Rahul Sharma by declaring him to be the Employee
of the Year of EBS. Kudos to you, Rahul Sir!

Clubs and Committees
As in the past, the new heads and members of the of
clubs and committees have since been announced. We
shall bring you more about their activities in the next
edition of Mocktails.

Welcomes and Adieus
By now well settled are Dr Sudhir Sakhuja and Dr Supriya
Sehgal, who joined the faculty in the fag-end of the last
academic session. It is rather too late to formally be

welcoming them to our fold, but yes, thanks for adding
value to EBS.
We also welcome into our fold the new IT faculty, Prof
Suman Kumar Deb, who brings with him very rich
corporate experience of Assessment Tools, Digital
Marketing and Six Sigma solutions. We recently bid
adieu to Dr Ajay Mehta and Prof Hemant Jain.
The absence of Dr Mehta, our Registrar and HR faculty is
dearly missed. Though a strict disciplinarian, we always
looked up to him whenever we were in a spot. Ever
cheerful, he is a person who does not keep things to
heart. He always had a word of encouragement for all
our efforts. Dr Mehta played a significant role in
contributing to the growth of EBS for the last four years.
We miss you Sir!

Prof Hemant Jain, the IT faculty for the last one year and PGP convenor has also moved out. We wish him good luck in his
future endeavours.

Aao Jaane
In this section we shall attempt to pass on a small doze
of ‘gyan’. As the starters, please try out this:

A person difficult to please : FASTIDIOUS
An office with high salary but no work :
SINECURE

atmosphere of excitement or great interest)

Thoda Sochiye!
Force of love
Love is an element which though physically unseen, is as
real as air or water. It is an active; living, moving
force…..it moves in waves and currents like those of the
ocean. Take a moment to think about it. What would the
world be without love? If force of love ceased today, the
entire human race would decrease and eventually die
out.
Every single invention, discovery and human creation
came from the love in human heart. There would be no
books, no painting nor music because all of these are
created from the positive force of love.
Love has been talked about and written about since the
beginning of time in every religion and by every great
thinker, philosopher, prophet and leader. But many of
us have not truly understood their wise words. Even
though their teachings are specifically for people in their
time, their one truth and message to the world is still
the same today.

“Take away love and our earth is a tomb”, so said Robert
Browning.

Hasna Mana Hai
Dad: Son I want you to marry a girl of my
choice.
Son: NO!
Dad: The girl is bill gates daughter
Son: Okay then.
Dad goes to bill gates
Dad: I want your daughter to marry my son

Dad: My son is the CEO of the world bank
Bill gates: Okay then.
Dad goes to the president of the world bank
Dad: Appoint my son the CEO of the world
bank
President: No
Dad: He is the son-in-law of Bill gates
President: Okay then.
THIS IS BUSINESS..
Teacher: "Anyone who thinks he's stupid may stand
up!"
*Nobody stands up*
Teacher: "I am sure there are some stupid students
over here!!"
*Little Johnny stands up*
Teacher: "Ohh, Johnny you think you're stupid?"
Little Johnny: "No... i just feel bad that you're
standing alone..."

Police: Where do u live?
Me: With my parents
Police: Where does your parent live?
Me: With me
Police: Where do u all live?
Me: Together
Police: Where is your house?
Me: Next to my neighbour’s house
Police: Where is your neighbour’s house?
Me:If I tell you u won’t believe me.

Police: Tell me
Me: Next to my house.

Boy: *calls 911* Hello? I need your help!
911: Alright, What is it?
Boy: Two girls are fighting over me!
911: So what's your emergency?
Boy: The ugly one is winning.
