SUMMARY: This position exists to provide technical direction and support for the Theatre Program productions in the King Center, a three-theatre facility (350-seat end stage, a black box production studio with approximately 110 seats), and a theatre laboratory space. DUTIES: Provide technical direction and support for the Theatre Program productions in the King Center, a three-theatre facility (350-seat end stage, a black box production studio with approximately 110 seats), and a theatre laboratory space. Develop and execute working drawings from designs by indicated deadlines. Engineering, operational analysis and implementation of the structural elements used in scenery and lighting in the theatres' rigging systems and in the construction of sets and props by benchmark deadlines. Supervise and guide student charge artists and/or perform charge artists duties. Teach two classes and associated labs (6 credit hours) and provide technical direction and build scenery (6 credit hours) each semester. Teach and supervise student crews and support staff. Supervise, organize and instruct student labs and work-study students in the scene, paint and prop shops. Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with other faculty, students, staff, guest artists and diverse communities. Work within technical budgets; cultivate relationships with vendors and other craft people in the Metropolitan area. Schedule, execute construction, and maintain shops, shop equipment, and storage areas. Work with technical faculty and staff to develop and maintain theatre program curriculum, facilities, lab spaces, technology and storage. Coordinate performing arts facility shared spaces use with two other institutions and the performing arts facility staff. Develop and implement training for various theatre safety programs. Develop technical internships. Must engage in professional development and service activities in the discipline and participate in advising. This position may have the opportunity to design scenery. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population. The program offers a BA in Theatre and a BFA with concentrations in Music Theatre and Applied Theatre Technology and Design. The position reports to the Director of Theatre. QUALIFICATIONS: Required Qualifications: An MFA in theatre technology and design or a related field plus three years of theatre experience in a professional setting; or Master's Degree plus four years of professional experience; or Doctorate Degree plus two years of professional experience. Preferred Qualifications: One year of successful teaching at the college level. A working knowledge of both manual and computer aided drafting to read, develop and execute plans and drawings.
