Performers at Morningside Assisted Living of Evans on October 2, 2010

The Community Outreach Program brightens the lives of residents in assisted living facilities while also providing valuable performance and community service experience for our students. Our Outreach Recital chairperson Colette Keogh has been hard at work securing several opportunities for students to play at three locations this fall. We hope that

many of our teachers will schedule students to play on one or more of these available dates. The residents of the facilities enjoy hearing all ages and levels of students! On Saturday, Oct. 2, 10 students of Colette Keogh and Laura Lowe performed for an audience of residents and parents at Morningside Assisted Living of Evans. We were very happy to have our own member and new resident of Morningside, Betty McKenzie, in attendance. Guidelines, registration forms, and current dates for Community Outreach recitals are available at our website, www.AugustaMusicTeachers.org. Visit the resources page to print guidelines and forms, and the calendar page to see the most up-to-date list of dates (they are subject to change). If you would like to submit students for a recital, please submit registration information to Colette Keogh by mail or email at least two weeks prior to the recital date.([email protected])

Motivating A New Generation of Musicians
On Friday, Oct. 1, AMTA member Temeka Davis presented a program called “Motivating A New Generation of Musicians” at our October Meeting at Curtis Baptist Church. She shared ideas for motivating students in those difficult high school and middle school years using a variety of means, including contemporary pieces from current movies and television shoes, multi-media recital presentations, YouTube, and more. Some of the resources Temeka shared are www.pianohq.com where you’ll find original piano compositions and a piano teacher blog by Glen Barkman; www.musicnotes.com where you’ll find a wide variety of music to download in all genres; www.musicdispatch.com which offers sheet music, instructional music dvds, artist biographies, and more; www.allpiano.wordpress.com where you’ll find a great piano blog, and in the right sidebar, a free ebook to download called Go Play: Tips To Motivate The New Generation of Pianists. Thanks for a great program, Temeka!
