What is fashion?
Well fashion does not coordinate only towards clothing. We also have hair styles, make up, music and now a days even underwear. Each of these depends on the type of clothing chosen. Nevertheless in each category art is present and this criterion has been a debate argued for decades. Let me first make clear that the fashion to which I am referring is high fashion. It isn't the sort of fashion meant for high street consumption, made by machines and propelled by mass production. The fashion I refer to is made through a creative process involving inspiration, vision, presentation, and a need by the designer to express a message through his or her chosen art form. I don't believe a t-shirt is made in this manner. Secondly, what is art? Well this is probably the oldest question in cultural life. I've always been interested in the process of making a work of art - the act of creating and how the artist feels the need to communicate through art. So early on I defined art as any act of creation intended to convey a message through a process and/or a finished work. But how does fashion fit into this definition I hear you ask? Fashion is a creative process that results in a finished garment. Fashion has always borrowed from other art forms whether they are textile patterns of ancient cultures or sport. Taking these insights, designers recreate a new language of art in the form of an item of clothing. They are artists working within the medium of cloth.
History of Fashion:
From the start of the 20th century, fashion magazines were able to use photographs thus they became even more influential than ever before. These magazines became very sought after, and had a major effect on public taste. The magazines saw talented illustrators drawing fashion plates for the publications, which covered all the recent and up to date developments in the area of fashion trends. A famous magazine was La Gazette du Bon Ton founded in 1912, it regularly published until 1925. Vogue was founded in 1902. It the longest-lasting and one of the most successful of fashion trends magazines. With the emergence of cheap color printing in the 1960s Vogue had a major boost in sales. Vogue saw coverage of fashion trends in women's magazines, and then by the 1990s saw coverage of men's fashion trends. Fashion journalism is now an extremely important part of modern fashion. Such editorial critique and commentary can be found in all types of media from; newspapers, magazines, and television to the more modern; fashion websites, social networks and also fashion blogs.

Fashion and fashion trends mainly refers to anything which is popular in a culture at any given time. It is inclusive of areas such as; style of dress, cuisine, literature, art, architecture, fashion trends and many other popular factors. Fashion trends often change rapidly, and "fashion" is often used to describe the latest version of these trends. The terms "fashionable" and "unfashionable" are used to illustrate whether or not someone or something fits in with the current fashion trend or even a certain type of popular mode of expression. The term "fashion" is often used in a positively as a synonym for style, glamour and beauty. However the term "fashion" can have negative connotations of fads and trends, and materialism. Popular fashion trend centers include New York, London, Milan and Paris.
Change in fashion:
Fashions in all things are constantly changing. Certain games and amusements, styles of furniture, rules of etiquette, foods and drinks, come into fashion and go out of fashion. What was fashionable in the days of our fathers is no longer fashionable to-day. This is especially true of fashions of dress which always means the latest fashion. One year ladies' dresses will be short and their hats small; the next they may be long and the hats large. Now the prevailing color will be blue; in a few months, it may be pink; and sometime after, everyone will be wearing black. A fashionable lady will call a beautiful and costly dress she has worn only once, "that old thing", and give it away to her maid, because it has gone out of fashion. As it is impossible for any but wealthy people to bear the expense of discarding perfectly good clothes, and of buying new and up-to-date dresses, only well-to-do people can always be in the fashion. How can we account for these constant and rapid changes in fashion? They are due, partly to love of novelty, and partly to what is called the "herd instinct". Animals that live in herds or flocks (such as cattle, sheep and deer) are in the habit of moving together, and all doing the same thing at the same time. Now men are animals that live in "herds" or societies; and, as a rule, a man or woman feels uncomfortable, if he or she is not doing or wearing just what their equals in society are wearing or doing.
Bad impact of fashion on young generation:
Most of the time they don't hold up and are made with junkie material. They are paying for the hype. Girls and guys these days are buying into the media of "stars" fashions that somehow they think they invented now and it has been around for years. And boy are they picky, forget about getting a teenager into a used pair of jeans or shirt or shoes, its got to be right off the rack or no deal. Very secular, too, no variety, a boy into skateboarding will only wear skater’s designs, same for a girl; she will pick a style and stay with that for what seems like forever and no changing the tag name. I blame the parents, they spoil them and don't let them know that money doesn't grow on trees as fast as they are growing and keep them on an even keel. I just can’t believe some of the fashion that is out there that these kids try to emulate, like the boys having their pants practically around their knees. That actually started in prisons, so how cool is that really. The girls with shirts that show half their breasts, that by the way, neither one of this poor dress choices are enforced in public school dress codes or in public. "they have to express themselves" well I say join a drama club or write it down, I don't want to see you underwear, nor do I want to see your breasts. No wonder every generation seems to have less and less respect, they have none for themselves and cant even fathom being independent thinkers, sad to say that some of these individuals will be running our country in one way or another.

Fashion impacts society and individuals greatly in this day in age. Most of us feel pressure, individually to have style which is brought on by society. But once we reach this goal, we are just one of society. Putting pressure on other people to looks good and has a specific style. It just keeps going. It also impacts our self esteem and self worth. We seem to feel inadequate if not properly accepted by society, so we are mentally disturbed by it. And it can cause things such as anxiety, depression and eating disorders. Fashion impacts society in a big way whether it be good or bad. People always expect you to look "perfect" but its impossible so yes fashion impacts the way you look but it also impacts how you feel. If you don't have a good sense of fashion you might feel down a lot or insecure where as someone who has a great sense of fashion might feel "perfect" very often. Contemporary society revolves around ideas such as beauty and originality, ideals which have been embraced and implemented by fashion designers around the planet. No doubt , fashion has traditionally been a powerful way of expression, as the way in which we dress
reflects our cultural provenience, mentality, character, and even our feelings. Additionally, fashion has the great quality of mixing utility with aesthetics, and may be understood as ‘a practical kind of art’. Being influenced by many various cultural and social factors and permanently evolving to the wants and needs of a steadily developing society, fashion has suffered a large amount of radical changes over the passage of time. If you’re a lesbian, you’ll have a simpler time hunt people look at each other differently just by the clothing they were. As a society we expect people to give into who ever is higher up in the social ladder. Though's higher class people may dress nicer, but that doesn’t make them better than the middle class to low class people. And that is BIG problem in society today. But many of you are probably asking, "How does this relate to fashion trends?" The answer is simple. The drives behind what is considered fashionable at any point in history are controlled by the same concepts of admiration or envy and disdain. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, society was divided sharply between the elite - those persons with wealth or noble birth - and those who were considered common - the serfs and servants, laborers and trades-people. One fashion of the period dictated that a person's skin should be pale and clear, unmarred by sun, wind or worry. This was primarily because only the commoner would need to expose him-or-herself to the elements while toiling away in the fields. A lady of the upper class particularly would spend her day mostly indoors doing needlework, or practicing artistic pursuits, and if she did venture outside it was only under the cover of a parasol, or strolling a shaded garden path. To have sun-kissed or tanned skin made you look like a laborer or common farmer, and not like a lady or gentleman of worth. Being able to understand how trends develop may help you avoid following the ones that are ill-suited to you. There is a lot to be said for independence of thought in a society driven by trends, and who knows, maybe you can set a trend of your own.
