…the Lincoln penny has been in circulation longer than the Washington quarter? The Lincoln penny was first struck at the U.S. Mint in 1909, the centennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, while the Washington quarter was first struck at the U.S. Mint in 1932, commemorating the bicentennial of George Washington’s birthday.

We’re pleased to announce that current PTA President, Laura Alvarado, has agreed to serve for another year, as has current PTA Secretary, Molly Bolich; Cathe Nguyen, our current Box Tops Coordinator/Marquee Parent, has expressed interest in serving as 1st Vice President. Join us at our February 5th meeting to find out more about these open positions:
- Treasurer (Monthly report, prepare budget with Board, balance accounts, collect funds, prepare & make deposits, accounts payable, basic tax & insurance filings) - Financial Secretary (collect funds/give receipts, prepare & make deposits, monthly report) - Fundraising Committee/Coordinator (work within annual fundraisers, as well as bring ideas for new fundraisers & events) - Membership Committee/Coordinator (Run membership drive at beginning of school year, prepare membership information for the 17th District PTA) - Volunteer Committee/Coordinator (seek volunteers to assist with events throughout the school year)

students by funding 21 Century Learning Projects throughout the district. Please contribute to this valuable organization. Look for parent volunteers at the Donation Tables on February 14th. Annual Pancake Breakfast!
A Message from our Librarian
Valentine Grams will be on sale from February 1-11, and will be delivered on February 13; they’ll cost $1 each and will have a heart-shaped note and a lollipop. Parent volunteers are needed to sell Valentine Grams in the lunchroom from 11:30am-1pm. Flyers/order forms have been sent home. Reminder – Birthday Grams are on sale daily, and cost $2.00 to be delivered to classroom or $2.50 to have students sing during in cafeteria during lunchtime. Thank you to the families & students who purchased Holiday Grams. We raised $294.00! Nancy Hunt’s “Stamping Up” event in January raised $65 for our library. If you missed the event, Nancy is offering a card making class in time for Mother’s Day on May 3 from 6-9pm. More information to come. February 8th is “Lower Your Carbon Footprint” Friday!
4th graders will compete for the Golden Sneaker Award this month by walking, taking the bus, or carpooling to school. All families are encouraged to walk, carpool, or take the bus to Sunset Ridge. We thank our families who already schedule these modes of transportation. One less car helps our environment, with an added bonus of reducing congestion in our parking lot! Congratulations to our Fall Fundraiser TOP SELLERS who recently went to a bowling party at Classic Bowling Center in Daly City with PTA President Laura Alvarado: Oscar CentenoLacaya, Gabriela Cruz, Deshawn Dawson, Trinity Do, Tyler Do, Jayden Fernandez, Nicholas Fernandez, Briana Leung, Anthony J. Maldonado, Jake Allen Mendoza, Brandon Stoke-Vera, Abigail Southwick, Roan Taylor-Dion, and Milan Taylor-Worku. THANKS KIDS!
Junior Olympics practice will soon start!
The Sunset Ridge Junior Olympics team will begin practice on Wed. Feb. 6th, from 1:35-2:35pm and will continue on Wednesdays until the event in May, date to be announced. This is a FREE program, and children born 2006 and earlier can participate; applications will be handed out on Feb. 6th. You can reach Head Coach, Magda Carranza, at (650)355-7260 if you have any questions.

Surf Spot has generously offered Thursday evenings as fundraising nights for PSD schools. The Thursday nights set aside for
Sunset Ridge are: Feb. 28, April 11 & May 23.
