Tax Credits Design Showroom Tips of the Trade Employee Spotlight Ask a Tech

Putting a little green in your pockets….
Thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, a.k.a the Stimulus Bill, homeowners are now eligible for increased tax credits for those who make qualified energy efficient improvements to their existing primary residences. In the simplest terms, this means the average consumer (YOU) can receive up to 30% of the installation costs back as a tax credit for systems purchased.
An energy tax credit is available for improvements made to your home comfort systems in 2009 and 2010. The credit is available on the installation of higher efficiency central air conditioners, water heaters, furnaces, boilers and air source heat pumps. The credit is equal to 30 percent of the installed cost of the improvements with a maximum credit of $1,500. An energy tax credit is available for the installation of solar hot water systems and geothermal heat pump systems occurring from January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2016. The credit is equal to 30 percent of the installed cost and there is no maximum cap on the credit. Plus, remember that first-time homebuyers who purchase their homes before April 30, 2010, are eligible for an $8,000 tax credit. If you qualify for this incentive, consider using that “extra” money for your needed plumbing, heating and cooling improvements.

Let me ask you something, what is not art?
Functionality meeting Art is the platform on which the Kozon Plumbing & Heating Design Showroom was constructed upon. Finished in the fall of 2008, the newly remodeled facility boasts an array of whirlpool tubs, showers, water closets, kitchen sinks, bathroom lavs, and many faucet styles giving the homeowner a fantastic selection during the home building or remodeling process. Our attitude towards plumbing as an art form will not only create a functional atmosphere in your home, but will add a unique element to be appreciated for years to come.

Tips of the Trade
Remember to replace thermostat batteries on a bi-yearly basis. Units may start causing interruptions in heat/cool functions before a display battery indicator is apparent. Toilets continuously running?…. “Chemical cleaners, tank additives and chlorine tablets entered the market place some time ago and began to cause many flappers to deteriorate faster than normal.-Toto” Flapper deterioration is a common occurrence among many households using such additives.

Kozon Team Spotlight: Brandy Barthel
Position: Years w/ Company: School Affiliation: Degrees: Owner, President 6+ Indiana University B.S. with majors in Marketing, Advertising, and Business Admin.

Seeing a woman at the head of a plumbing, heating/cooling, and electrical company is a rarity and usually doubted by onlookers, but that is one element Brandy Barthel is determined to change. When one proclaims that their work is in their blood, it usually means a great connection to their profession…in Brandy’s case her career not only holds a great passion for her, but is literally “in her blood.” The Kozon Plumbing & Heating dream has been a part of her family since its conception in 1981. The company has played a vital part of her career life as an after school job, then a position during her work co-op years in high school, and a permanent position after graduating from Indiana University-South Bend. Married to partial owner, Jason Barthel, and working alongside sister & brother-in-law combo, Jess & Josh Michael, allows Brandy to keep true to the family run and operated values that customers have grown to appreciate and expect.

Ask a Tech: Do I need a home humidifier?
I am asked this often in the fall/winter months. In short, if you live in Northern Indiana – I highly recommend you have one. The benefits to having a whole house humidifier is feeling more comfortable, reduced static cling or shocks, your home feels warmer, your nose and throat feel better, decreased amount of dust, and longevity of your home’s interior. Contrary to popular belief, it is not the type of heating system (gas, oil, electric, etc.) that dries out a home, it is the cold air which makes its way into the home. Seeping in from drafts around windows, small air leaks, and opening doors all let cold air infiltrate your home and replace the warm air already inside. Whereas some of this cold air is good to let your home “breathe,” its affects can be uncomfortable. At Kozon’s we have the humidifier to suite your home family’s needs. Contact us today, for a more comfortable tomorrow. – Mike Doub, Service Manager
