A Message from Meg
October 1, 2010 We're in the home stretch in a very important race for the future of our state and, with your help, we are going to retire Jerry Brown. Since day one, I've never wavered in my commitment to Californians. I firmly believe we can make California the best place to go to school, raise a family, build a career and play in happy retirement. This election is a battle for the soul of California. I’ve created thousands of jobs for Californians and I have the skill set to shape up our government and get Californians back to work. In contrast, Jerry Brown is espousing the same old, tired ideas he has for the past 40 years. It’s time we move California forward. So I'm asking for your help. I urge you to do whatever you can to help get my message out, to recruit your friends and family, and most importantly, to vote for me. On Monday, absentee ballots are being dropped in the mail in many places. Please look out for your ballot. And if you still need to register to vote, you have until October 18. Click here for voter information. This week, I highlighted innovation and education. In San Jose, I visited Cisco Systems, a worldwide leader in computer networking. Using state-of-the-art videoconferencing, I spoke to about 1,000 Cisco employees at various office locations about my plan to create jobs and use technology to make government more efficient. Also this week, along with many concerned Californians, I watched "Waiting for 'Superman'" -- a sobering new documentary that exposes our crumbling public school system. I recommend that every parent of a school-aged child in California see the movie -- I believe it will inspire people to work together across party lines to bring about real education reform. Click here to read my education plan. Without good schools, California can't hope to remain the innovation engine. I don’t know about you, but this week also galvanized my resolve to end politics as usual. This campaign has always been about putting people back to work and fixing our broken government. And in the final sprint to Election Day, I am going to keep offering Californians real answers to our serious problems. That's how I've run my campaign, and I promise you -- it's how I'll run our state if you give me the chance. I'm looking forward to my second debate with Jerry Brown on Saturday in Fresno. It was a great experience debating him Tuesday night. Californians have a real choice in this election. Saturday will be another opportunity for Californians to compare and contrast our candidacies. California's best years are still to come and, with your help, we are going to win on Nov. 2.

In Their Own Words...
"Waiting For Superman" - Work Hard To Elect Meg
Except from Lance Izumi's op-ed in Flash Report
Denying our children the opportunity to have a good education is akin to denying them a solid meal or a warm bed. As the election for governor approaches, we have a choice. For one candidate, Meg Whitman, education is a top priority. She has visited schools and spoken with top educators to craft a solution that centers on moving control from state bureaucrats to parents and local educators. She will direct more money to the classroom. She will offer more school choice and demand more accountability from everyone -from the governor to parents. And she will eliminate the cap on charter schools, spurring new models for teaching and learning. Parents, Whitman strongly believes, need more information to help them judge how their child’s school is performing. She has a plan, modeled after Florida, to grade every school A to F. The information will be easily accessible and she will give parents a fast-track process to turn poorly performing schools into charter schools. Whitman believes good teachers are the gems of our system and she will reward the best teachers. She applauds the recent series in the Los Angeles Times that published teacher ratings based on student performance. The debate is far from over on how to best use this information, but we both agree it is an important start to boost student achievement...more
