Revit 2011
Guideline for making Parameters and Filters
Parameters
Objects in Revit can be assigned different predefined parameters.
Eg. a wall can be assigned certain IDENTITY DATA:

Note there is a parameter concerning Fire Rating, but if you choose floors and roof there is not a
parameter concerning the Fire Rating, therefore we will make a parameter specifying Fire Rating
for these constructions.
To create a parameter, select the Manage Tab. Here you can choose between two types of
parameters: Project Parameters and Shared Parameters

In this case we choose the Project Parameters to make a Parameter for the Fire Rating.

1

Revit 2011

Click on Add, and the following dialog box appears:

Fill out the dialog box as shown above. In categories, choose Walls, Floors and Roofs.

Filters
Now the Walls, Floors and Roofs are “intelligent” in regards to fire rating. The parameter can now
be used to give the different objects filters that can show the fire rating by color.
Select Visibility Graphics (shortcut VG)

2

Revit 2011

Choose the tab: Filters - Edit/New

Choose New

3

Revit 2011
Make the Filters rules as shown below. Name the filter REI60

In Categories you choose Walls, Roofs and Floors.
Make as many filter rules as you need.
Select Filter Graphics: Color and Pattern of your own choice, as shown below:

4

Revit 2011
Now you can select the Walls, Roofs or Floors which have the fire rating REI60. Select eg. a wall,
open Properties and enter ‘REI60’ in the Fire Rating-field. Now the wall turns red.

View templates
An easy way of getting the filters to another view is to make a view template.
A view template is made in the View tab – View Templates – Create Template from Current View

Give the template a suitable name
Now you can import the view to all the views by going to the View and click on Apply Template to
Current View.
