Alpha Fire Company No. 1 to Raise
$4.5 Million for New Firehouse

LITTLESTOWN, PA — The Alpha Fire Company No. 1 (AFC) has approved plans to
begin construction on a new fire company building in Littlestown to replace the existing
aging structure.

The company will conduct a campaign to raise the funds necessary for the project.
The new facility will be constructed on the premises and surrounding lots of the current
fire company building on East King Street. AFC has contracted Kinsley Construction
Company to execute the project and plans to break ground by first quarter 2015.
According to Elwood Albin, president of AFC, “The fire company building will improve
our ability to effectively respond to calls. Plans include an increase in available
vehicular storage area, facilities for EMT operation, and space for training and
boarding personnel. The existing facilities are in need of significant repair, and space is
limited for the storage of fire apparatus and equipment. These and other improvements
to facilities will allow us to continue growing our operations for the five surrounding
municipalities we serve.”

Coordinator of the Capital Campaign, Ken Myers, states that “We will utilize a capital
campaign to garner public and private support for the project. The capital campaign will
occur throughout the year, and will utilize many of Alpha’s existing fundraisers as
avenues for funding. We are launching our $4.5 million program this week with our
carnival.”

Established in 1885, Alpha Fire Co. No. 1 built its first firehouse in 1886 and has since
served the emergency needs of Littlestown, PA. It provides service to five
municipalities (Littlestown Borough and Germany, Mount Joy, Mount Pleasant, and
Union Townships) with a total population of 18,645. Within these municipalities, Alpha
covers property valued in excess of $982 million. It is comprised mostly of volunteer
members. Alpha Fire Co. No. 1 also employs three full-time and nine part-time
paid EMT personnel. More information about the company, as well as an up-to-date
schedule of events, can be found on their website at www.alpha20fire.org.
