O'0ane, 9r., Ph.D., Grant Herbarium ?ISTC@, Department of Biology, Tniversity of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA VDCEB. 9:*;$% *< !"#$%2 WVDD =(#"2 KDDX 3;")*7( *< !"#$%2 To provide financial support for field work toward completion of a new Flora of New Mexico. >;::#"? *< '(7;1%7: Little[ or not[visited areas, unusual geological substrates, and various vegetation types were explored in the following New Mexico Counties: Curry, De Baca, Guadalupe, Roosevelt, Socorro, Torrance, and Valencia. Although not targeted, additional records and specimens were also obtained from Colfax, Do^a Anna, Lincoln, Otero, San Miguel, Sierra, and Sandoval Counties. Field work was conducted from KK April through EI September. We attempted to visit each field site at least twice, and often three times, throughout the growing season. In total, CIE new county records ?Table E@ were discovered including five new state records ?pending expert verification@. A complete list of records is available from Heil. Also a new species of !"#$%&'% ?Fig. E@ was discovered in the San Mateo Mountains and additional material of another new species of !"#$%&'% ?Fig. K@ from the summit of the Sandia Mountains was collected. /#@1( A. These two new species will be described and submitted for publication in the next few months. Scanning electron micrographs have already been made of the tricomes and DNA sequences of the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacers have been obtained for comparison with other species of !"#$%&'%, especially needed as (!) '1-#%*%/ superficially resembles !) 2'*-,.&3+. (!) $%*+%,-.-*$'$/, however, is one of the most distinctive species in the genus. Floristic findings have been added to our growing database for the flora of New Mexico. New state records are published in the 4-5 6-7'8. 9.,%*'$,. Tltimately, our work will be published in a new flora for the state to be published by the Tniversity of New Mexico Press ?for which we have a contract@.
