PPN Talks Food Conveyors, Interested?
As the name implies ‘conveyors’, are the material handling machines that transfer products generally along a processing line. For example in the process of a packaging solution say for Falafel a vertical conveyor would be the link between a vibratory feeder which would hold the Falafel mix which would be carried by the conveyor to the multi head which has a series of heads (anything from 10 plus would be the norm) depending on quantities required. The multi head would then drop the product in the appropriate doses to some form of bagging machine say a zip pouch machine for example. The finished product would then travel along a takeoff conveyor for packing and despatch.
As we are talking specifically about food conveyors it is essential that they be wash downer sanitary in nature to comply with health regulations. Conveyors of this level should have the following standards to be deemed ‘sanitary’ for use food production.
1. Meet AISI 316 standards for maximum resistance against chemical cleaning agents. 2. Elimination of welling points, horizontal surfaces or catch points inside the food zone. 3. Use of standoff bearings, leg supports and fasteners. 4. Motors to be stainless steel geared outside food zone. 5. TIG welded stands-offs and round cross bars.
The easier the machine is to strip down for cleaning means less production down time so the right choice is critical.
