Four
Jazz standard, composed by American jazz saxophonist Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson.
Mistakenly attributed to jazz trumpeter Miles Davis.
First recorded in 1954 by Miles Davis and released in 1956 on his album Blue Haze.

Form :
Begins with an ascending major second.
ABAC form.

The compositions “Four” and “Tune Up” were always credited to Davis, although both are claimed by Eddie Vinson to be
his compositions.

An American jump blues, jazz, bebop and R&B alto saxophonist.

Eddie Vinson gave permission to Miles Davis to record “Four” in the album “Blues Haze”.

Miles Dewey Davis III (May 26, 1926 – September 28, 1991)
American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer.
Together with his musical groups, at the forefront of several major developments in jazz music, including bebop, cool
jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, and jazz fusion.

Life :
Born on May 26, 1926, to an affluent African American family in Alton, Illinois.
Musical studies began at 13, his father gave him a trumpet and arranged lessons with local musician
Developed his earliest appreciation for music listening to the gospel music of the black church.
Earliest years were spent under the watchful eye of Dizzy Gillespie, who influenced Davis’ bebop style.
1944, study at the Juilliard School of Music.
Died on September 28, 1991, from the combined effects of a stroke, pneumonia and respiratory failure, at the age of
65.

Contributions :
Owing largely to the African American performance tradition that focused on individual expression, emphatic
interaction, and creative response to shifting contents, had a profound impact on generations of jazz musicians.
A lot of Artist influenced by him, such as Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock.
